The Beatles version of "Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey" is also the song played at Royals games after they win
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am coelacanth∅:

the first "kansas city" i heard was hermits hermits and to say it blows the beatles' version out of the water is an understatement

Swag For Life Member 12:32am Ira:

Tami Lynn! Oh brother, hadn't heard about that.
  12:32am Rick G:

If you have Twitter check out @ashcanpress (Matthew Rosenberg) and his Carl Reiner story. It’s very sweet.

Can’t fall asleep, might as well check out Ira’s show live this week! Thanks for doing this!! I’m a DJ at WXDU and haven’t done a show since March. Been listening to your shows here since you started filling in for Dave and you’ve hipped me to several great discoveries.

Thanks again, hope to see you guys at the Cradle in 2021!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00am mb:

Hola DJ Ira and the living.

Ok lots of Sun Ra enthusiasts here. I've seen a b+w video on YouTube of a 8-10 piece Arkestra plus dancers do "Rocket #9". At the end they go acapella and do a rap style version. Can't seem to find it but does anyone know what i refer to? Thx.
  1:06am Dungaroos Kipawah:

❤️
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Greetings, groovlings! Hey Ira and WFMU pals, great to be here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10am Rory:

Hey everyone! mb, if it’s b+w it could be 69-71 I can’t find a rocket #9. YouTube has a habit of taking videos off. I have Sun Ra Arkestra live on SNL on a dvr (not my own). It’s not on a smart tv so I don’t know how to convert it to a file to put on YouTube.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11am Rory:

I think I’ve seen the video you’re talking about...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am mb:

Thx Rory. "YouTube has a habit of taking videos off." Seems like a lot has gotten taken down this year.
Avatar 1:13am northguineahills:

Ira!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14am mariano:

So "Arnold Layne" was apparently inspired by a newspaper story Syd read about a transvestite who'd been arrested for stealing women's clothes off of clothes lines.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am Rory:

@mb - Hopefully I can use my millennial powers and up the artifact on YouTube! Oof, so much good live Sun Ra deleted forever! Still haven’t seen the snl clip. It’s one of his best and they cut the Arkestra off visually the finale 30 secs with the music still playing! I imagine the behind the cameras they were motioning to cut it or else they would have just kept playing, haha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22am Rory:

Can’t believe it happened though wow!
Swag For Life Member 1:23am Ira:

This LONG Century. Check out Georgia's playlist. It's fantastic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25am mariano:

Ooh yeah, Rory, that does sound tough, having something on DVR but no smart TV. Maybe a specialized electronics shop?
  1:26am John L:

Rory, the Sun Ra SNL is on Daily Motion. It's the entire episode in two parts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27am Mr. Pumpy:

Gezads!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am Mr. Pumpy:

Is that a proper exclamation? Not sure, but I just went outside with my camera...and things happened. I find it pleasant to remind myself what light and lens can do. Holy shit...we went through some things out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am Mr. Pumpy:

What are you all doing to flex the creative muscle? I lost the wherewithal for so long, and I'm jazzed that it has returned.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am Mr. Pumpy:

I'm even more jazzed that taking photos is the least of it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am Rory:

Avatar 2:34am Paper Moog:

I would have enjoyed the wig wam song more but I am too tense.
Swag For Life Member 2:38am Ira:

The opportunity to do these shows is making me so much less tense than I would be otherwise. Thanks for listening, everybody.
Avatar 2:44am Paper Moog:

Mary plays the Moog, I howl at the Moog on long Tuesday nights. She recorded or wrote rather at Marin Headlands, I live only 50 miles from there. Coincidence?
Yo no la tengo maybe I don’t get it
Swag For Life Member 2:46am Ira:

Not sure I'm following you. I know that Moog Powell used to play first base for the Baltimore Orioles and opened a barbecue stand at Memorial Stadium, unless it was Camden Yards.
Avatar 2:48am Paper Moog:

Wood you play Oogum Boogum by Bretton Woods or is that beyond the pale at New Jersey?
Avatar 2:49am Joe B:

Moog Powell, not to be confused with former Mets great Moogie Wilson
Swag For Life Member 2:50am Ira:

I love that Oogum Boogum. Next week (if I remember).
Avatar 2:50am Paper Moog:

Moogie Wilson? Isn't that the guy who played with Todd Rundgren?
Avatar 2:53am Paper Moog:

I just bought for six dollars at Tunnel records in San Francisco out near the beach a Sarah Vaughan record with imagine and the piano player was listed as Willy Mays
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54am Ken From Hyde Park:

As long as it wasn't Billy Mays ;)

Thanks Nate and crew, 'night everyone!
