Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am ultradamno:

I mean have you heard of this guy Burnette who ripped off that Yardbirds song years before?
Avatar 12:11am Joe B:

must be the US mix with the sitar very low
  12:12am BH:

is this like how some radio stations played the version of "Groove is in the Heart" without the Q-Tip verse? (or "Waterfalls" without Left Eye's part)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am coelacanth∅:

it's the woodstock remix
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am mariano:

So is this a Beatles/Dylan AI?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am ultradamno:

I prefer The Residents & Renaldo & The Loaf original
Avatar 12:15am Roberto:

I reckon there's meshugos afoot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am ultradamno:

Or was it Cornershop?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am ultradamno:

Yeah, R&R&TL's wood was Mahogany
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17am coelacanth∅:

BH hearing Q-tip in there was the only reason at the time i paid attention to that song
(though i do think it's a classic that deserves that designation)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18am coelacanth∅:

the british underground?
  12:18am Alexei:

that's not "Run Run Run" by The Velvet Underground, The Beatles Norwegian Wood wasn't played ETC. are you having us on???

Lou sounds great on this one!

I Can't Go To Bed with the anticipation behind each of these "covers"!
  12:21am Kendra:

What was the little bit of Spanish language song that played before Run Run Run?? It wasn’t credited that I can tell -?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am karlward:

These are truly deep cuts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am mariano:

Another good Prince homage is Ween's "Monique the Freak".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am karlward:

They might even be deep learning cuts
  12:22am spodiodi:

i just heard something hit the floor
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am Chop Scott:

Good Evening Ira. I am a happy listener--Cheers!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29am Ken From Hyde Park:

  12:30am Klara:

Did I dream I heard the Richard Berry version of "Have Love Will Travel"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am ultradamno:

Wait, think for myself? OK, but it's going to get messy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am Jim the Poet:

Everything is a lie! I believe in nothing! Nothing!
Avatar 12:31am Michael Shelley:

You really need the Flintstone feet
Avatar 12:32am Hoboken Jack:

Is this former Yanks infielder Pat Kelly?
  12:33am mr. zip:

i had a couple of freakbikes i had to ride with those flintstone feet
Avatar 12:34am Mike W:

we’re all individuals!

grateful for these songs tonight
Swag For Life Member 12:34am Ira:

@Hoboken Jack: As John & Yoko nearly put it--it's former Yankees infielder Pat Kelly if you want it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34am karlward:

All the deep cuts, none of the annoying facts
  12:39am ?:

Had to look up Splendora, never heard of that one!
  12:42am rw:

Evening! Think for yourself? I don't get it.
Avatar 12:43am Roberto:

I only have eyes for you -- as opposed to feet, or some other body part.
Avatar 12:44am Roberto:

No wait, that would be "I have only eyes for you."
Avatar 12:45am Hoboken Jack:

Not to confuse you, ?, but a Splendora was an Individual and Mike W was not.
Swag For Life Member 12:45am Ira:

@Roberto, these long songs give you plenty of time to figure things out.
Avatar 12:49am Roberto:

I was going to say, that particular version gave me ample time to reevaluate all my life goals.
  12:51am mr. zip:

i only have tongues for you
Avatar 12:51am Mike W:

? and the Question Marks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am karlward:

  12:56am mr. zip:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

hey kids, keep it down!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02am mariano:

SCTV is brilliant. Good number of sketches and even episodes on YT. It's amazing what range they all had as performers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03am Ken From Hyde Park:

Granny! Your card arrived today. Thank you / e / em!
Avatar 1:05am Mike W:

tired of this DJ treating me like i don’t exist
Avatar 1:06am Mike W:

Swag For Life Member 1:09am Ira:

Mike W., that's EXACTLY what a bot would say!
Avatar 1:12am northguineahills:

This Alvin Singleton is brilliant. And why haven't I heard of Lester Bowie's Brass Fantasy, when I have much other stuff he's done!
Avatar 1:14am northguineahills:

When I was in HS, SCTV was on the local PBS channel.'

Horse Lords, aural warriors of psyche steppe!
Avatar 1:16am northguineahills:

@Roberto 12:43: Don't kink shame me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20am mariano:

The Jerks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am mariano:

ngh: Yeah, if that was the mid-late 70s you're talking about I was in elementary, discovered SCTV and Python at the same time. God bless 70s PBS.
Swag For Life Member 1:23am Ira:

SCTV was on NBC in New York. I was working at Maxwell's at a certain point in its run, before we had a VCR. Georgia used to record the show on an audio casette for me. That's how I experienced the William B. Show for the first time.
Avatar 1:26am northguineahills:

@mariano: I was in HS in the 90s, that's when I discovered SCTV and Python (actually, my HS Philosophy teacher showed us the Holy Grail)
Avatar 1:29am northguineahills:

(discovered SCTV/Python on PBS)
Avatar 1:31am Hubig Pie:

Diggin the hippie country vibe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31am mariano:

Ira: That NBC show was the 90 minute one, right? ngh: Oh, ok. Good to know it was still playing in the 90s.
Avatar 1:32am northguineahills:

instead of the 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon, I play 7 degrees of Ira. And since I played w/ Daniel Carter....
Swag For Life Member 1:32am Ira:

90 minutes of SCTV, yes. Not sure it was the 90s, though.
Swag For Life Member 1:33am Ira:

@Northg... , that's 1 degree of separation.
Avatar 1:33am Richy4619:

Avatar 1:34am northguineahills:

@Ira: I played w/ Daniel about 9 times. He's one of the special people of the universe. And yes, I have your recordings w/ him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35am Chop Scott:

Growing up outside of Chicago in the late '70s SCTV aired following SNL. That was my Saturday night, before having a driver's license. Brilliant show! -The Plasmatics on Fishin' Musician. Guy Caballero, Brini Sclaroso!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

i was junior high school age when I saw Python"s Mollusk sketch on PBS. For me that's 1977 maybe - not so long after they were actually on. I mean I remember which sketch - & my sense of humor has never been the same. Beatles of Comedy.
Avatar 1:37am northguineahills:

I was once returning from my office job, and had just gone through a break-up, and I bumped into Daniel in the Union Sq station, and w/o a word, he gave me a big hug....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45am coelacanth∅:

that's Johnny Cash.
he also gives the tree-cutting machine shit for not answering him upon his greeting, in the song about john henry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45am mariano:

Wait, there's a longtime Accu member who's related to Jorma Kaukonen by marriage, and of course I can't remember who it is. Maybe coela?

Chop Scott: Bobby Bittman!
  1:47am Agent Peter:

"We now join the Sammy Maudlin Show already in progress..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am coelacanth∅:

(der, not a tree cutting machine but an automatic railroad spike driving hammer.
-got my legends mixed up)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48am coelacanth∅:

not i, mariano
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50am mariano:

Alright, I'm tired of screwing around. *One* of you is related to Jorma Kaukonen, and by God you're going to fess up! You are all presumed relatives of Jorma Kaukonen till I get to the bottom of this.
Avatar 1:52am northguineahills:

I always wanted the Dell-Vikings play w/ the Del Fuegos...
Swag For Life Member 1:53am Ira:

I once walked past Grace Slick on Broadway, does that count? (I didn't see her. My head was down. I was informed about it--and crushed--later.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04am coelacanth∅:

okay -i am *indirectly* related to Jorma.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08am mariano:

That's cool, Ira. If I've ever completely missed some mega star on the street, I don't wanna know about it. I'm in my own world when I'm walking, and I'm not that good at facial recognition anyway.

Hah! I knew it, coela! Wait, I don't know what to believe anymore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09am chaos_in_la_la:

That Treniers tune reallly (with three L's) makes me want to go get a bag of potato chips.
Avatar 2:10am Joe B:

SCTV network 90 ended in 1983, then they had one season on Cinemax
Swag For Life Member 2:12am Ira:

Thanks, Joe. I don't think my career behind the soundboard at Maxwell's made it into the 90s either.
Avatar 2:12am northguineahills:

I'm the same, mariano. I once was returning from a sound gallery on 7th Ave, and my youth minister from FL kept shouting my name before I looked up. (I grew up in a fundie household, at least that guy was cool)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13am coelacanth∅:

i've had conversations with folks and been told of their identities afterword. some pretty big ones.
Avatar 2:14am northguineahills:

(he turned me on to TMBG and IRS Recs before I knew what music was).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16am mariano:

We're fellow survivors of fundamentalism, ngh. Looking back I'm glad I had a glimpse into that world though because I know exactly what I'm dealing with.

coela: Aaaaand..?
Avatar 2:16am Joe B:

@Chop Scott - yeah the early SCTV seasons ran in 30 minute form sometimes after SNL, or on CH 9 in NY pre-NBC. It was kinda like the Capitol Records Beatles albums, but still a cool intro!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17am chaos_in_la_la:

So glad to hear some Pain Teens. Thank you.
Avatar 2:18am Joe B:

Peppi had his son playing in The Good Rats toward the end
Avatar 2:18am Joe B:

The Judds - mother/daughter combo
Avatar 2:19am Joe B:

line I never thought I'd hear on FMU - we've talked enough about SCTV. SAY IT AIN'T SO!
  2:20am Georgia:

Adam faith is from England
Swag For Life Member 2:22am Ira:

Georgia, perhaps the character he was portraying in the song was Welsh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23am coelacanth∅:

mariano i'm related to Jorma in the 7 degrees of separation way that ngh was talking about
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23am chaos_in_la_la:

@ira ahahaha!
Swag For Life Member 2:25am Ira:

Joe B., you're absolutely right. In other SCTV-related content, we watched Clifford a week or so ago. Funnier than ever.
Swag For Life Member 2:28am Ira:

Hey . . . I found the name of that Matthew Shipp lp: The Piano Equation. Only 10 minutes late.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33am coelacanth∅:

Swag For Life Member 2:42am Ira:

I'm relieved to see that Mariano also doesn't know how to type the 0 with the slash through it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47am mariano:

Haha! Whenever I use that O I copy it from his name. Ok, I don't know why I didn't learn this before, I'm like the special characters alt-code king. It's Alt + 0248 on a Windows machine: øøøøøøøøø -- feel free to copy and paste.
Avatar 2:52am northguineahills:

@Ira: zero w/ a slash through, mathematically, null set, also the solo of Mika Vaino (of Pan Sonic)the somewhat club friendly experimental electronics....

tangental asides, Williams Parker is also an awesome human being...
