  12:06am BH:

I think I'm using next Friday as the date for shaving the pandemic beard, unless MLB reconsiders playing games right now
Avatar 12:08am Mike W:

Avatar 12:09am Hoboken Jack:

Hello Ira and all! Jersey Journal had a backpage sports headline the other day that was pretty good for the Jersey Journal: FLATTEN THE CURVEBALL

  12:11am BH:

My team is in a division where they don't have to go to Texas, Arizona or Florida. But I doubt they'd have an all Central division league this year
  12:13am Rick G:

Tuesday greetings, with the K in the moniker taking on new meaning-striking everyone out with killer tunes, bringing the heat.

  12:16am BH:

all in all, a year where you can't actually go to the stadium really isn't all that different from the years where you didn't feel like going (applicable to fans of certain teams)
Swag For Life Member 12:16am Ira:

@Mike W: Are you a tough grader?
Avatar 12:17am Mike W:

Easy grader, tough teacher
Avatar 12:18am Mike W:

surely we’re in for a reading of “Baseball Altamont” tonight!

As for my excitement level.. i'm pretty sure my team isn't good enough to merit endangering people's health. But having something to watch in the evenings would be neat
Avatar 12:31am Roberto:

Jack Klugman came to our house once when I was a kid. I think he was a bit sloshed at the time.

Hi Scouter Eric.
  12:54am Derek:

For those of you less familiar with organist Josh Kantor, tune into his FB Live show at 3 EDT! 7th-inning stretch is the name.
  12:54am RJ Wilson:

Ira was a good guest on Josh's show last week.
  12:54am RTR:

Stretchers can't hear enough Josh!
  12:54am Paul Suwan:

R.J....you just can't get enough of The Chat, can you?

  12:57am RJ Wilson:

Hi Stretchy Timers, one and all.
Avatar 12:58am Paper Moog:

If that's not possible how about Hyun-jin Ryu song, One After Ninety Nine??
Avatar 12:59am Hoboken Jack:

Hmm I may attempt to blow this Randle b-side into foul territory. Wait, the sax saved it. Fair enough.
Avatar 12:59am rjwilsonkc:

I love this one Ira.

Swag For Life Member 1:01am Ira:

@Hoboken Jack: That's hilarious--when the sax solo came on, I almost rejected it. How can you resist a single/mingle rhyme?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02am E. R. Price:

RJ, did you get tired of doing math too? :)
Swag For Life Member 1:02am Ira:

@Paper Moog: Coming right up!

Ben Gibbard mentioned the Lenny Randle song when he was a guest on Josh's show a couple days before you, ira. From the Wheedle's Groove comp, if I'm not mistaken.
Avatar 1:03am Paper Moog:

who knew that Tim Lincecum had a dorsal fin?
Avatar 1:03am rjwilsonkc:

Paul, your recall is impressive. It's like you have a spreadsheet of all this or something?
  1:04am Paul Suwan:

Haha, no...I'm no spreadsheet man. That's only for the savviest among us. ;-)
Avatar 1:04am rjwilsonkc:

This takes me back to my years of hosting the Bob Wills Hour on local radio. It was a 30 minute show of music by and about Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys.
  1:06am yippie:

its a good time for a one on one ballgame. you can get some cracker jacks just no crowd.
  1:06am RTR:

rjwilsonkc, have you shared that in 7IS? Very cool.
Avatar 1:06am Roberto:

Coming of age in L.A. in the early '80s, we had no shortage of Fernando Valenzuela-related media.
  1:07am yippie:

i love hearing bob wills and the texas playboys singing about all those yippie ghost riders in the sky
Avatar 1:07am Paper Moog:

How about John Sayles of Seacacus, NJ imitating Ring Lardner doing a parody of "You're Forever Blowing Bubbles" sound bite from the Eight Men Out movie? Or did I doze off and miss that one?
Avatar 1:08am rjwilsonkc:

I may have said it at some point RTR...But I will have to look back and see when.

Avatar 1:21am rjwilsonkc:

But as RPM says, we must find our hope...and finding your hope is more difficult when you're butt dragin' tired the next day.
Avatar 1:21am Paper Moog:

Hyun-jin Ryu had successful Dr John surgery such that he can now position his fielders to be in the right place at the wrong time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22am E. R. Price:

Im diggin' this tune.

Me too Eric. Remember, Sajdak is a good name for baseball.
  1:23am paulsuwan:

I hear you, R.J.
Avatar 1:23am Paper Moog:

Wait, there's music, too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23am E. R. Price:

Def a good name for baseball!
Avatar 1:24am rjwilsonkc:

I am enjoying the pictures Ira is posting on the playlist too. No wonder he and Josh get along so well.
Avatar 1:25am rjwilsonkc:

I hear my main man Josh.

That's his home organ in his living room you guys.
Avatar 1:27am rjwilsonkc:

LOL....glorified T-ball.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am E. R. Price:

It's okay if Josh's music stops suddenly, Ira. Just shout "Musical chairs!" We'll all get it. :)
  1:30am SueJ:

Another stretcher tuning in. Good to hear. It was good to hear you on the Stretch the other day, Ira.
Avatar 1:30am rjwilsonkc:

LOL Eric. Do people play musical chairs at this time of the evening? Hi Sue!
  1:31am SSteve:

Another Stretcher checking in. Love hearing Josh play.
Avatar 1:31am RTR:

Stretchers from US and Korea have checked in on the 7IS chat tonight (some of us are in Weds while others are still in Tuesday).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am E. R. Price:

Musical chairs!
Avatar 1:33am rjwilsonkc:

I just crossed into Wednesday. Hi Steve!
  1:34am sufferwords:

I miss baseball more than any other aspect of the olden times / future baseball isn’t baseball it’s pure commerce, the bombast and hectoring screens once foreign to Dodger stadium now overwhelm- gimme Vin Scully on the am crowd - unified thought and feeling narrated by one of our greatest of American poets
Avatar 1:34am rjwilsonkc:

I hope the network executives are tuning in. This is good radio.

Avatar 1:35am Hubig Pie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36am E. R. Price:

True, sufferwords! That's why I still prefer my baseball on the radio. Even watching on TV, I turn the vol down and turn the radio on.
  1:37am sufferwords:

oh.... Dodgers this year- I’ll take an asterisk ring- fookin Astro be sportin theirs without worry the Trumpesque cheaters
Avatar 1:37am Paper Moog:

markweiss86.com...
Avatar 1:37am rjwilsonkc:

sufferwords, if I am honest, one of the most admirable traits of Josh Kantor and his wife Mary is that they have done their show for 111 days straight to help people through the pandemic on a zero dollar budget. The baseball components of the show are a wonderful addition that takes me back to those Denny matthews on the AM Radio days.
  1:37am sufferwords:

and Love and Mercy nailed it
Avatar 1:38am Paper Moog:

It’s two clippings from game 1 of the 1973 series, Willie Mays striking out then Campy sliding into first base. Hair of the dog
  1:39am SSteve:

Ira, I know you already played Barbara Manning with S.F. Seals, but if you have her solo album One Perfect Green Blanket, Straw Man would fit the baseball-adjacent theme.
  1:39am BH:

now that I think about it, with the Roberto Clemente song going... are there a lot of songs whose lyrics are pretty much "this song is about a specific famous person"? maybe we're too cynical to do that these days but..
Swag For Life Member 1:40am Ira:

@SSteve: Straw material on its way, but of a very different stripe.
Avatar 1:41am rjwilsonkc:

Nice work Steve.
  1:42am SSteve:

❤️
Avatar 1:43am rjwilsonkc:

I feel so hip and cosmopolitan listening to these songs as I mill around the empty house.
  1:43am JackieH:

Another 7th Inning Stretcher here. I said I would be at work on the night shift. Finally got a break to listen! I confess though, I'm in St. Louis and a Cards fan. Love to listen to Josh and RPM though....I lived in Boston in the 70's. Hi RJ!
Avatar 1:44am rjwilsonkc:

It's like NY/NJ is in my living room, just like having Boston in my living room daily. Hi Jackie.
Avatar 1:44am RTR:

Jackie H., we love stretchy fans of all teams - even those highlanders :)
Avatar 1:45am RabidRabbit:

@BH The best song about a specific famous person is "The Parable of Glen McGrath's Haircut" by an Australian band "TISM". It's also about a cricket player so sort of fits into the baseball theme, hehe:)
Avatar 1:45am rjwilsonkc:

I bet there are some Highlander fans in here too.
  1:45am BH:

acknowledging the Denny Matthews acknowledgement.. guess I should listen to some games on the radio if Denny is in the booth. He's been skipping most road games for a few years anyways
  1:46am Dungaroos Kipawah:

Joe E Brown’s the champ—ELMER THE GREAT! One of best baseball movies ever, up there w The Bad News Bears and Bingo Long.
Avatar 1:46am Paper Moog:

rjwilsonkc:

Stretchy Timers are a loyal group who hang in for multiple hours a day, whereas “Stretchy Timmers” are a weird cult of San Francisco baseball fans who had their femurs removed to emulate the long stride of The Freak Tim Lincecum
Avatar 1:46am rjwilsonkc:

Man, Ira, I love a good country waltz. Thank you.
Avatar 1:47am rjwilsonkc:

LOL....that's hilarious, and I hope not true. I'm midwestern and a little gullible.
  1:48am paulsuwan:

That sounds like something Josh would invent, doesn't it R.J.?
  1:49am SSteve:

I love Camper so much. It's a crime that they aren't living comfortably off royalties.
Avatar 1:50am RTR:

Paper Moog: lol!
Avatar 1:50am rjwilsonkc:

As soon as I read Paper Moog's comment I immediately thought...that sounds exactly like something Josh would say between songs.
Avatar 1:50am Paper Moog:

Not to be confused with Tim Stretch a fighter pilot serving our country likely this very hour from San Francisco whose brother Brian Stretch a former US attorney who was in the rotation with future Giant Mike Remlinger
Avatar 1:51am rjwilsonkc:

BH, thank you for acknowledging Denny. He's slowed down a little. But he's such a font of baseball knowledge. He has trained Ryan well.
Avatar 1:51am Hubig Pie:

Calypso Bob
  1:51am JackieH:

Then RPM would write it on a sticky note star and post it on the bulletin board!
Avatar 1:52am rjwilsonkc:

That previous comment was for you Paul....yes Jackie, a commendation. Paper Moog would be a good viewer for Josh's show. Speaking of Josh. Ain't no mountain high.
Avatar 1:53am Paper Moog:

The only true thing I’ve said in 40 comments and six weeks is the bit about the fighter pilot the US attorney and left hander Remlinger... the rest were what mark Twain would call “stretchers”
  1:53am JackieH:

Go Josh!
Avatar 1:54am Paper Moog:

Nibbling at the corner of a baseball theme
Avatar 2:00am Mike W:

man, two punk rock songs in a row?
Avatar 2:01am Paper Moog:

Camper van Beethoven made enough from Michael Moore “Bowling for Columbine” take the skinheads synch license that Victor Krummenacher was able to buy a house — but then the band was successfully sued by campy campaneris so ironically enough they are all back in Santa Cruz living in a streamliner
Avatar 2:01am rjwilsonkc:

That song is making my popcorn taste bad.
  2:01am Mark G:

Any truth to the rumor that YLT are part of the mysterious sixth ownership group to submit a bid for the Mets??
  2:02am BH:

Denny has all the power of institutional memory because he's been around 50 years and also a lot of ability for figuring out what could happen next.

The radio teams not traveling on road games is sort of a tribute to old time broadcasts inspired by the whole situation. So maybe some of the non-traveling home broadcasters get some extra road games this year if they don't need to fly.
Avatar 2:02am Paper Moog:

You mean, the 1964 Topps complete set?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04am Ken From Hyde Park:

Hello. Tax Man says I should fund my Ira. Unfortunately, I'm all out of check blanks.
  2:04am SSteve:

Here's that Straw material we were promised.
Avatar 2:04am rjwilsonkc:

Good points BH. He's also like a psychologist. He knows the personalities and can see the behaviors before they manifest. Yordano Ventura was one who was tough for him to figure out. But he got there eventually.
  2:05am Frankie A:

Old School Hollywood by System of A Down?
Swag For Life Member 2:05am Ira:

@SSteve: promised / threatened--tomayto / tomahto
  2:05am paulsuwan:

Ira did say there was some Straw material coming. Brilliant (maybe)!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09am E. R. Price:

:D
Avatar 2:09am rjwilsonkc:

Let's talk about that chord progression.
  2:10am BH:

wonder if there's a 3rd song involving one of the 80s Mets because I heard a Dwight Gooden rap on here around March 2019
  2:10am JackieH:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14am E. R. Price:

That would have been a great idea
  2:14am JackieH:

We were spoiled for many many years listening to the great Ernie Hayes, the stadium organist at Busch Stadium St. Louis.
  2:14am Rik:

Hello from the West Coast! Know you only have 45 mins left in your set, Ira, but suggest any tune from Dan Bern’s “Doubleheader” album of baseball tunes:

  2:16am Mark G:

Is that a cast??
Avatar 2:16am rjwilsonkc:

I watched the breakdown of Don Zimmer getting thrown to the ground the other day.
  2:16am JackieH:

Now we have Dwayne Hilton. He's good too. Nothing can beat "Here Comes the King" while the Clydesdales take a lap around the warning track!
Avatar 2:17am rjwilsonkc:

Ketchup Mustard Relish.
Avatar 2:18am rjwilsonkc:

Man I loved getting to see the Clydesdales when I was a kid. That was a good border fight between the Royals and the Cardinals. I grew up in southeast Kansas and both teams were fighting for those fans.

Reminds me of “I won’t Need that Tube of K-Y With Don Mossi as My Wingman” by Gaylord Perry
Swag For Life Member 2:31am Ira:

@rjwilsonkc: I was trying to say that YOU won't be there. It's increasingly hard to speak clearly as the show goes on. And I'm not so great at midnight.
Avatar 2:33am Paper Moog:

1963 – In his only at bat with the Orioles, Buster Narum goes deep off Cleveland southpaw Don Mossi....
Avatar 2:33am rjwilsonkc:

I will definitely not be there. You are correct. But I am considering a MLB TV subscription just so I can tune in and hear Josh play during the games. I may need to write the commissioner and tell him that's why I subscribed.

Gotta leave the party for a bit...new patient just arrived and needs my attention.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33am E. R. Price:

Great bass line in this tune
Avatar 2:33am rjwilsonkc:

Bye Jackie...go get em.
Avatar 2:34am glennfromglendale:

This show is so great, I’m a bartender and we close at 10pm these days so I come home and dive into this goodness Love your show Ira!
Avatar 2:35am rjwilsonkc:

Good call Eric, that bass is jammin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36am E. R. Price:

It's great that there are still stations like this out there. I listened off and on today (thanks to 7IS) and WFMU is doing great things. Might just have to donate and make this a regular stop!
Swag For Life Member 2:38am Ira:

Welcome, E.R.--there is nothing like WFMU. I say that as a long-time listener who is thrilled to do shows here.
  2:38am Tookie Wuthry Guffy:

where can you listen to past games like the prison said radio announced baseball games? are there archives or classics?

It’s been so long since I’ve felt this way...
Avatar 2:44am Roberto:

Oh yeah I also went to Walter Matthau's house a couple of times. So both versions of Oscar Madison are covered.
  2:44am BH:

some people have uploaded radio calls of games to YouTube because it's YouTube and a variety of things are up there
Avatar 2:45am rjwilsonkc:

This show has been great Ira, thank you.
Avatar 2:45am rjwilsonkc:

I love a good polka.
  2:47am SSteve:

Yeah, thanks so much, Ira. I'm so glad I got led here from 7IS. This is what radio is supposed to be. (BTW, I was in a band where one of our songs was about how crappy radio is because they don't play Bettie Serveert or Yo La Tengo. https://music.apple.com/us/album/radio/267293499?i=267294627)
Avatar 2:47am RTR:

Roberto: I asked in the 7IS chat if anyone else was old enough to remember Jack Klugman and friends getting sloshed on Match Game PM after I saw your earlier comment. ;)
Avatar 2:47am glennfromglendale:

Someone needs to make sure Ken Burns hears this show so he can realize he should have hired Ira to handle the tunes for “Baseball”
Avatar 2:48am Roberto:

Ha! Yeah speaking of Match Game, Brett was with him when he came over.
Swag For Life Member 2:48am Ira:

@Roberto: !!!!
Swag For Life Member 2:49am Ira:

Thanks so much for listening and thanks for commenting and thanks to Josh for making this show special. Enjoy the last 10 minutes!

Pandemic plusses - discovering great things like 7IS, WFMU, and communities of folks who love the same things I do--baseball and music! Tonight's show has been outstanding, Ira!
Avatar 2:50am Paper Moog:

Speaking of which, Billy Martin could have a side project called Clay Carroll where all the parts are ceramic percussion devices
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50am E. R. Price:

And, yeah. I put some in the till. Gotta keep freeform radio free!
Avatar 2:55am rjwilsonkc:

What's this show called. I'll donate too.
Avatar 2:55am glennfromglendale:

Agreed ER, the pandemic had me trying to Dj to myself for too long. I revisited WFMU and took my hand off the wheel. Incredible brain food and soul fodder in awful times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56am E. R. Price:

I just donated to the station overall.

Avatar 2:57am Roberto:

Sry, no moar donations for a while from me. Wife's already pissed I donated in March.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57am E. R. Price:

Yeah, Glenn. I've been trying too hard to curate music to get me through the day rather than enjoying the freedom of just listening and the thrill of discovery.
Swag For Life Member 2:57am Ira:

Not soliciting donations! Only answering questions.
  2:58am Rik:

Thanks for a fun (late) night, Ira! ⚾️
  2:58am Clem Kadiddlehopper:

Thank You Ira

No joy in Mudville tonight

Donation made...and I love stickers and T-shirts. Thanks for exposing Josh to more folks Ira.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59am E. R. Price:

Great job, Ira! This has been a blast!
  2:59am JackieH:

Got back just in time for the end! Great show Ira....I'll try to listen more when I'm on the night shift in the ER.
Avatar 2:59am RTR:

Thanks so much Ira. Great show!
