Good afternoon David, Ruth and listeners

The Zimmerman set arrived one year before Dick Hyman's complete keyboard works box. In 1976 Deutsche Grammophon issued the first(?) complete recording of Treemonisha. The mid-'70s were good for Scott Joplin.

Hello djazz, thanks. And yes, james, that photo has a lot to unwrap.

Hello, fred and hello Dean. Bethena is complex and the more I listened the more I admired it.
  3:23pm
Dean:

Joshua Rifkin recorded it in 1972, too. Engineered by the marvelous Joanna Nickrenz and Marc Aubort.

I just added a Taborn track to my pile for Friday's show. What a deep and lovely player. Loving this duet.

Doug! Yes, Taborn is a special one. Every time.

It's interesting how Kris Davis embraces kind of a support role, but brilliantly.

Heard Taborn with Sonny Simmons and Cosmosamatics in Oakland probably fifteen years ago.

I downloaded the Davis/Taborn duet record Octopus a few months ago. Embarrassed to say I haven't gotten to it yet.

I saw Taborn a few times (with Tim Berne and Tom Rainey each time, and one or two others)

I've always had mixed feelings about this Duke photo because it captures him in such an inelegant position. His batting stance/swing is just miserable!

A story in the Baltimore Afro-American, April 16, 1955, reports that some of the Milwaukee Braves were staying at the motel at the same time as Ellington's band. Among the players, Hank Aaron.

Gary Sullivan’s Bodega Pop Live 7-10pm: Happy Together: Punk and avant-pop from Yugoslavia's twilight years. A soured East-West German collaboration. The iconic diva and the composer she spent half a century avoiding. Dispersed Assyrians. Deconstructed Fleetwood Mac.
