pleasant surprise. good evening.
Avatar 6:03pm Dan Bodah:

Good evening all -- happy to be here for Transpacific Sound Paradise -- keeping Rob's seat warm this week and next.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm deborah:

Good Evening Dan and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Webhamster Henry:

Transpacific Fry Paradise!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm chresti:

Hi Dan and fryers!
  6:08pm Marie:

Hey, nice to hear you, Dan! I loved that first track and this one too. I am crazy about the gamelan and have listened repeatedly to a show you did a long time ago of all gamelan music. Thanks. Dan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm radioronan:

Good evening Dan and global citizens of the comment board!
Avatar 6:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I dunno - ya reckon there's enuff World for more than one DJ ?
Just beautiful.
Avatar 6:10pm Dan Bodah:

@Marie thanks, glad you are enjoying. Oh I remember that all-gamelan show -- must have been years ago, so glad. This music sounds like a place I want to be lost forever.
Avatar 6:12pm Dan Bodah:

Ah, wow -- 13 years ago! And here it is, 3 hours of gamelan on my old show Airborne Event (rip): www.wfmu.org...
  6:12pm Marie:

Howdy to each and every one of you. Yes, Dan it so dreamy, so to speak. Can't find the right words but it is like it touches the infinite or death but lives on, or somethink.... :>)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Webhamster Henry:

I had Gamelan practice every week until the middle of March. One of our shows was supposed to be last weekend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm mariano:

Three hours of Vocal Fry? That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!
Avatar 6:18pm Dan Bodah:

@WHH, that is sad! Will you perform at all for the public?
Avatar 6:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

When I lived in Santa Barbara once attended an all night long Gamelan with Shadow Puppet show performance. Not so much here small-town New Hampshuh. I miss those times: sitar one day, The Ramones the next ...course we miss everything now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Webhamster Henry:

@Dan We're trying to see if we can get together for practicing. But there are other things going on beside the usual pandemic delays. Here are some photos from 2018 for the 2019 show. Photos by former WFMU DJ Stefan, proving once again that the world is indeed small.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm chresti:

This is about the ONLY way I can stay sane, listening to WFMU
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm fred:

@Dan: No yard sale coming up, for obvious reasons, but I'm still on the lookout for a Billy Joel cassingle. If I ever find one I trust you to handle it the right way
Avatar 6:29pm Dan Bodah:

@fred, hahah PLZ YES I know *exactly* how to show that little *#&$^ the love it deserves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Luisa24:

This is the prettiest song ever!!!
Avatar 6:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Intended to be a loose quick comparison of course, but one major difference between dulcimer & koto is those raised bridges. If you play Strings this is a thing - makes Guitar & Violin different - & sitar too even with the frets - which are also raised on sitar...& curved...
  6:33pm Marie:

love this! Oh wow, Webhamster Henry, that is really neat. I am sure the band will arise again. I have seen some bands (jazz0 playing live in parks...
Avatar 6:34pm Dan Bodah:

Doumbia has such a bell-clear voice
Avatar 6:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

WebHenry I can only imagine being in such an ensemble! Listening is magical enuff...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm Ike:

Airborne Fried Paradise?! Cool.
Avatar 6:51pm Dan Bodah:

Gary Sullivan did a show focusing on Oum Kalthoum (aka Umm Kulthum) and her competitors/descendants/antecedents -- Bodega Pop: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm fred:

Oum Kalthoum is huge for me. My earliest memory was her funeral. And I'm neither Arab nor Muslim
Avatar 7:11pm TDK60:

Hello.
  7:15pm yippie:

is this a new yoiker?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm fred:

Is Saadet Turkoz Kazakh? Or Kyrgyz maybe?
  7:16pm two tigers:

Great Snow, Dan! I wish you’d do more fill-ins like this!:)
  7:16pm two tigers:

Great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm ParUbi:

Yes! Saadet Türköz! Thanks, I totally forgot her name and stumped the other day. Lover her music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm chresti:

There are Swiss songs about itchy cheese?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm WR:

Hi all. Like what I'm hearing and curious about what I've missed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm chresti:

When my brother was married to a woman from Switzerland it never occurred to me to ask her if she yodeled.
Avatar 7:25pm Dan Bodah:

From Saadet Turkoz's bio on her website: "I was born in Istanbul in 1961 and I am currently living in Zurich.

Due to the political pressure of the Chinese government upon the Turk people in East Turkestan (Uyghur Autonomous Region), my parents fled to Istanbul, where they settled as Kazakh refugees. They transmitted us the rich oral and musical traditions of the highlands of Central Asia. With the tales of their far away country and their journey to Turkey, the elderly people of the Kasakh community influenced my imagination as musician until nowadays."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm chresti:

^She liked fondue, I know that much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm anne:

that's awesome, we get 3 hrs of you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm Handy Haversack:

Dan! The Fried! What a nice surprise. We just got back from a hike that was *this* close to making us fussy at the end. Greetings from weekend vacation upstate!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm chresti:

Hi Handy, fussy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Handy Haversack:

It was strenuous, chresti. We were pretty wiped out the last mile or so. The dog loved it, though -- and so did we. Glad to be relaxing with a cocktail and FMU, though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm fred:

@chresti: Dan made it more complicated. I don't know about yodeling, but Swiss people pay a lot in taxes and rent, but are usually rich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm chresti:

Ah, thanks fred. Is Switzerland still considered a tax haven for rich foreigners?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm fred:

@chresti: I don't know, but friends who played there got paid beyond what they thought possible, so there's money floating around
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm steveo:

oh it's Dan! lovely set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hello, Dan and the international fry zone. The lovely crescent moon is setting in the west.
Avatar 7:45pm TDK60:

The Sun just set in NYC, NJ; civil twilight.
Avatar 7:47pm Dan Bodah:

@TDK60, is "civil twilight" a synonym for when Trump cancels the election?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm chresti:

Will be sunset here in about 3 hours then, TDK60.
  7:48pm Dean:

Hamza El Din, McCabe's Guitar Shop...one of the better live shows.
Avatar 7:48pm TDK60:

Haha Dan. Just learned today there are 3 phases of twilight: civil, nautical, astronomical twilight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm chresti:

Thank you for the strings, Dan.
Avatar 7:50pm TDK60:

Chresti hola. fires/smoke there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm fred:

@chresti: looks like you could use some respite from the sun
  7:52pm Carmichael:

Ok, heya Dan and transfryers. In my smoky man cave, trying to do yard work.
  7:57pm Carmichael:

96 and smoky. I should hang some meat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm steveo:

smoked loaves and fishes for ev'ryone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm chresti:

Hola, TDK60, fires and smoke are everywhere, Biggest ones are up north, a smaller one is up the street above Pasadena. fred, looking forward to the dark, @7:58 PDT
  8:00pm Carmichael:

Vacaville is the monster at the moment. I heard Big Sur also is on fire.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm chresti:

Also, Santa Cruz mountains, Big Sur...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Napa, Sonoma, Vacaville, mountains east of San Jose, Big Sur and Santa Cruz mountains. Big Basin lost historic buildings and maybe trees. Trees older than Mohammed.
It is horrible.
  8:02pm Carmichael:

Lick Observatory is under siege.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm chresti:

Friends went to Big Sur last week, only to turn around after one night because of smoke and heat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm chresti:

Down here, the big one is by Lake Hughes.
Avatar 8:06pm Dan Bodah:

So sorry Califriends. Worried about family out there. One of my best friends just heard the other day that her friends in the SC mts had to flee and expect the house she used to live in there is gone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

I'm near San Jose and air quality is rated unhealthy for everybody. Thanks chresti, I didn't realize that one was still going.
Carmichael are you in NorCal? I like your meat idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm Smilty69:

This is why I dislike my cousins.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm chresti:

Yeah, I know Ben Lomond in the SC mountains, used to stay in a cabin there in my teens.
  8:12pm Dean:

"Under siege"?! Folks, this is nature at work, not the military.
Avatar 8:13pm TDK60:

I think Cousin Mosquito was high on the WFMU charts before.
  8:14pm Dean:

Full disclosure: I am not a fan of nature. More often than not, it's horrible.
  8:14pm Carmichael:

@lizzie, I’m in Sacramento.
Avatar 8:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Some Ali Farke for John Lee Hookers' B-Day.
Avatar 8:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 8:18pm Dan Bodah:

@RRN63, LL gracias
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm chresti:

I love Boubacar Traore's voice.
Avatar 8:21pm Linda Lee:

i *knew* something was missing from my woodsy world. amazing to finally hear it ~ so gratifying!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I can clearly make out Jupiter to the south and Saturn now to the left and a little below.
Avatar 8:24pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm steveo:

I looked at Jupiter through binoculars a few weeks ago. Could see one of the moons. Felt like Galileo.
Avatar 8:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@KenFHP: With just binoculars I have seen Jupiter's larger moons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm steveo:

Jinx
  8:31pm Teknishun:

Loving it.
Avatar 8:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I've seen maybe the four larger moons - surprisingly far out from Jupiter itself...would like to again...maybe depends when in the cycles you view dunno.
There's this map - fires & storms too including the double one projected for the Gulf ?? :

  8:32pm Olivia:

Great show! Loving it!
Avatar 8:36pm TDK60:

Great sound, Shemonmuanaye. Is it a harmonium?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm steveo:

Really lovely show tonight
Avatar 8:37pm Dan Bodah:

@Olivia, thanks! @TDK60 it's an accordion -- accompanied by Rhodes piano and synths -- recorded at Howard U in DC
Avatar 8:38pm Linda Lee:

wow... isn't this beautiful! just a beautiful vibe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm steveo:

Yes I've also seen 4 moons. Amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm Ken From Hyde Park:

My binoculars aren't too powerful. I was barely able to pick out the comet last month. Will give them a try when it's a little darker out.
Avatar 8:42pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Jupiter & Saturn @ least are pretty high in the sky in terms of the ecliptic most of the night. I snoozed on the comet & missed it with the useless binoculars I have now...
Avatar 8:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Pluto is actually inbetween them :
planetwatcher.com
- but of course not visible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm Handy Haversack:

Been loving the show, Dan! I had to cook and eat because of the prenominate incipient fussiness, but we have been enjoying it tremendously.
Avatar 8:47pm TDK60:

I can see the Moon, waxing crescent in WSW.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm joe mulligan:

great day for fill ins, first mr finewine for michael shelly now the one and only Dan Bodah for a transpacific vocal sound fry paradise! glad to hear you Dan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm Handy Haversack:

Ken, which direction are Saturn and Jupiter right now?
Avatar 8:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@TDK60: Yes you can see the Sun & Moon's relative positions that site also
- & that the Moon is Opposing Mars @ 180° about now as well : Mars will Rise East as Luna Sets West...
  8:53pm Carmichael:

@Handy, to your right.
Avatar 8:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Handy : J & S will be highest before midnight in the relative South. That site can help you picture it ...if I don't take familiarity too much for granted...
Avatar 8:54pm TDK60:

Handy, in the SSE. Thanks Revrab.
Avatar 8:55pm TDK60:

timaanddate.com also have good graphic maps of night sky. / Thanks Dan! See you all soon..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

www.timeanddate.com... says 161° or so at the moment, like TKE mentioned. Thanks, Dan. Fry ya later!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm chresti:

Thank you for the fine show, Dan!
Avatar 8:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

They'll start to Set - slowly get further West starting pretty soon here actually...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm mariano:

Thank you Dan and Crew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm radioronan:

Avatar 8:59pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Thx ! - I'm trying to picture it from the Astrological chart of the moment's relative positions...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Handy Haversack:

Thanks, pals! This mountain is going to block all S views, I'm afraid. Should get nice views of the Milky Way and the Andromeda story, though.

Hoping to Marty Party with you all, though we might light the fire and be away from the keyboard for a lot of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Ike:

Thanks Dan!
