Made it to 43 :
' Leonard Harold Breau (August 5, 1941 – August 12, 1984) was a Canadian guitarist and music educator. Breau blended many styles of music, including jazz, country, classical, and flamenco. Inspired by country guitarists like Chet Atkins, Breau used fingerstyle techniques not often used in jazz guitar. By using a seven-string guitar and approaching the guitar like a piano, he opened up possibilities for the instrument. '
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
doctorjazz:

Breau, quite some technique. Bre played a 7 string guitar (extra bass string) in the style of George Van Epps; classical finger style technique. Took lessons with a teacher versed in the style way back when-it's crazy hard (didn't get very far...)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:56pm

Joe Pass actually had his own version of solo guitar, saw him a few times playing alone. He didn't have right hand finger technique, but could manage to cover all aspects of a piece using his pick.

(The George Van Epps technique book, which we used in my lessons, was an endless collection of 3 or 4 note chords, in which you had to take 1 note of the chord and move it up and down (keeping the others in place), then the next note of the chord, as infinitum. Builds amazing technique (but I found it minds numbing)

Chresti-it was really hard, involved left hand fingers getting into positions they were NOT designed to get into.

Rev-haven't touched my guitar in about 7 years (when I fell of a bike and fractured my left elbow, which never quite healed properly). Was really just a fool-around player before that, had some folk and blues finger style technique, never mastered classical technique.

it's .. smokey (but i can;t complain... here in sf isn't anywhere near as bad as other places. overall, it's a little overwhelming. i haven't been watching the news much for that reason. but, yeah... wow. destruction,)

Berkeley was much better yesterday, but today again intensely smoky, which can only mean it's much, much worse in the surrounding areas.

Been busy day. My previous comment was made when adjusting music volume because on customer call. Liability of being an on-call support tech. Now trying to catch up with lunch and all the informative comments.

@Dean, didn't know Cadence now has a video channel, have to check it out (used to get Cadence magazine years back, but it just reviewed so many albums, just found out overwhelming, and let it lapse. Also found it odd that a record "store" and review magazine were combined, but now that seems to be a common practice).

I hear you, @doctorjazz. Similar experience here. I subscribed for years, but decided I didn't want to deal with its primarily online presence with an annual print issue. David Haney has been working hard to keep Cadence afloat. But I do miss the t-i-n-y print record sale pages.

Nowadays, I read Fanfare, which consists of 500-600 pages of classical record reviews, small margins and almost no illustrations. No way I can keep up.

(They are a bit schizy-can play covers of Dead tunes, movie themes, or they can get way out. I'm fine either way, but family coming along, they'll either love or hate it, depending on how theyblow. Took my older daughter to see them at The City Winery, Nels Cline guested, they blew WAY out the whole set. My daughter was not amused...)
