Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Dan and Dean, big Gentle Giant fan here. Discovering them almost 30 years ago was my one of my greatest musical thrills.
  12:21pm
dan:

@Barry P.
All you need to know about Gentle Giant's greatness is the live performance of "On Reflection" where the band starts out doing chamber music and then quickly get back to the guitars and rock it out.
  12:22pm
Dean:

Had the good fortune to see them, but only once and at a day-long festival at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, where they opened for Gary Wright, Peter Frampton, and Yes, 1976, I believe. Think I first heard them shortly after In a Glass House, still my favorite of their albums.
Avatar 12:22pm
Roberto:

Actually, there's nothing saying a giant can't be female, so circumcision might not be the best indicator. Not to mention the many, many circumcised goyim out there.

@Dan, agreed, like the version on Playing the Fool.

Dean:

First Triumvirat track I heard was *not* from Illusions on a Double Dimple. Was from Mediterranean Tales. But here's the thing, Triumvirat was kinda more like ersatz progressive rock, where Gentle Giant were forging their own path--inspired by their affection for Renaissance and medieval music, the influence of which is what I think put off a lot of listeners from the get-go--independent of Yes, ELP, Pink Floyd, etc. As noted above, they were extremely talented musicians, but devoted to a different kind of virtuosity than the superstars. Yet it was a virtuosity of sorts. Take "Knots," the vocal round. Sure, it's showing off, but it's also kinda charming.

I think the attribution to "Crees Que Soy Sexy" is incorrect. Isn't this the tune? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MKn0MxI0Ts

Fleetwood Mac has had many chapters, but no one seems to acknowledge the brief lineup in 1994 where Bekka Brammlett, Dave Mason and Billy Burnette were front and center.

The hit version was a different recording, from 1977...but you know that.

The original version on the Bare Trees album is better. Christine McVie's harmony vocal is the icing on the cake.

Dean! Stan told me a couple of years after he left Wall Of Voodoo, he heard from a third party that a former associate had been impersonating him on the phone for the purpose of punking other bands. So it's a good thing you were to busy feeding the gold fish and didn't drag all your gear down to the Hong Kong Cafe that night, You say there's a flyer?
