Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I knew the Bunnymen a tiny bit - but no one was distributing the Teardrop Explodes to me on small-town New England then... Which underscores that it was the decade of massive changes & phases in my life if I pause to consider. Early REM is inseparable from Leaving Home & Alt ~ Indie emerging - no space between them for me. & now my head is all steeped in Children of Nuggets... & Power Pop podcasts...

Anyone remember WHTG 106.3 Eatontown in the late '80's? Switched over to that when I moved to Chelsea and couldn't pick up WLIR/WDRE anymore. Remember they had Love & Rockets, Mojo Nixon and Paul Kelly & the Messengers in heavy rotation (for some reason only those stuck in my memory).
