My 9YO hopes to start studying trombone next month. If not that, then trumpet. If not that, then...ukulele.

One Thanksgiving long ago my family was in Sacramento to celebrate with friends. We decided to take an early morning stroll. As we left the house we say two fellows strolling in our direction on the sidewalk. One of them was Wynton.
Avatar 12:38pm
Wolfgang:

Howdy, Dean! Sounds great. I'd gently urge for the trombone - thoughno spit valve to clean on a ukelele - that I know of. Nice story about Wynton. Did anyone say hello?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:39pm
WR:

DJpeterDE was referencing the Marsalis track. Those gents were on most of the tracks on that album.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:40pm
adamdoesit:

When young Steve Turre practiced the trombone, his mother was wont to say, "this too shell pass."
  12:42pm
Dean:

Not as I recall. I was thinking, "Is that who I think it is?" as the duo walked by. Only then did I realize, "Yes, that was him." He's a short fellow.

Turre got away with more than most kids. His mother always let him slide.

Steve: The big parade is tomorrow morning, and we have to arrive early.

Ya read my mind, adamdoesit. I did not see the torrent of Turre jokes coming. The show just paid for itself.
  1:00pm
DJpeterDE:

Also: that tune was Carter’s from ESP so... yeah, Miles’ mode. (But not Miles’ Mode.)
  1:01pm
Dean:

Really, we should have celebrated Turre on September 12, when he turned 72. Would have been a treat just to watch him blow out the candles.

Yeah, I mis-read the creds, Peter. Thanks again.

Oh, dang! Thanks, Dean. I said 59 earlier, but then I read his year of birth - '61, and got all discombobulated.
Avatar 1:25pm

@Michael: is 98145 really your Postleitzahl? You're in Bielefeld? Yeah, the joke is that no handy roads lead to or from Bielefeld. It's kinda tucked away on country roads. Nice place, though.
