spodi, in back-yard-animal-life news there was a possum that looked like it might outmass me hanging out on the back stoop last night as we were going to bed! The dog took one look and was basically like, "Uh, [Handy]? This seems like it might be something *you* should handle."

Yamaha: i've owned an '81 XJ650 (i still ogle the schematic of that engine from the repair manual from time to time -- the reason i kept the manual) and a '85-ish Riva scooter (that was stolen in front of my old place in Glen Park, around this time of year (many years ago) -- also wiped out on that one (my right arm and shoulder have never been right since.)

the xj is what i wish for. i've had 550s and a 750 (modified) and yes the 550 is small but it was far faster than i'll ever need to go and i can back it up an incline, maneuver through situations...i also like the chain. the 550 is the only xj that isn't shaft-driven.

Speaking of weird dog behavior: our emergency back-up dog freaks out at the idea of getting into and riding in a car. Tried bundling her up, antianxiety med, benedryl, whatever -- she shakes and whines when she gets within 3 feet of the car. But we can't keep her out of the jon boat, which is a hell of a lot noisier, way less stable.
