we've both avoided using earplugs every day, chresti (for years -- (my partner gets ear problems from them, and i'm trying to avoid such problems, plus i don't like not being able to hear *anything*)), but it is the only thing i think i have left to try now (doing the recommended course of action offers little hope, and none of it in less than several months)

It comes fromt tortel, I believe, tortel being a Turkish dove race. In Dutch it's "Turkse tortel" It's the the one that says coo three times. tortel/trois, that's how I remember.
