Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from November 20, 2020 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

If Doug is lurking, I do believe I've identified Sambo, whose 1975 45rpm Doug played during his show this morning. A 2004 article from The Beat about Lynn Taitt notes that Sambo moved to Canada with Taitt. Discogs associates Sambo with "The Sound of Obeah," evidently a Canadian band. The Facebook page (available publicly) for Abu Safi Al-Jamaki states that Abu Safi "[t]raveled to Montreal Canada as drummer with Byron Lee's Dragonairs in 1973 after Honorable Discharge from the U.S.Army. Remained in Montreal Canada to form new band, 'The Sound of Obeah' with Lyn Tait and Dynamite, Everson Sam." Everson Sam's Discog entry features this record, recorded in Canada: https://www.discogs.com/Everson-Sam-Everson-Sam-Ba/release/3250554 The LP includes this track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5T3JNtVatc ...which sounds a lot like the vocalist on the Sambo record Doug played.
