Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Did you know that Hinky Dinky Time has a phone number? You can call and leave a message with a show ID: (This is [listener name] and you're listening to Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael on WFMU's Give the Drummer Radio). (201) 204-9350.

Please?

Uncle Michael:

Five weeks from today, on January 1st, 2021…the first Friday of the year, we’ll be creating something special, together. Uncle Michael will be presenting the fifth annual Hinky Dinky Time All Listener Request Program.

There are TWO ways to communicate your request for the show. The first way is to use the WFMU email form at: tinyurl.com... . The second way is to leave voice mail at (201) 204-9350. There is no third way. If you leave voice mail, you do so with the understanding that the audio of your request may be heard during the show, but that that’s not assured. The cutoff for requests is 12:00 PM CST on December 31, 2020.

Please do not begin submitting requests until the conclusion of today’s show.

A sophisticated algorithm will select requests for inclusion. The algorithm is inscrutable, complex and capricious. Don’t try and understand it. Our puny, moist brains cannot. You can submit multiple requests. The algorithm will select from among them. You may think you can beat the algorithm at Vulcan chess. Good luck with that.

If you plan to make multiple requests via voice mail, and hope to hear your mellifluous tones during the show, please leave a separate voice mail for each request. If you leave voice mail with a list of requests, your requests will be registered but the audio of your voice mail will not be usable. Please limit voice mail requests to a maximum of three.

Audio of requests received closer to the December 31 cutoff have a reduced chance of being included in the program.

Since the show has a finite duration, it’s entirely possible that not everyone who makes a request will be rewarded. If your feelings are easily bruised, you might refrain from making a request. The algorithm is the decider and it has no empathy.

Referring to my request last week for Wendy to help influence the establishment of fresh herring stands in the US like those in Holland, I gotta say cold herring from the supermarket is mostly a disappointment in either the wine or cream sauce. We are a struggling nation.

Always plan on making soup from Turkey parts, then never get to it. Maybe this year.
  12:50pm
Dean:

Was just my family of four, so on top of the huge lasagna, the dressing, mashed potatoes, and green beans w/ bacon, I only managed a turkey breast. I do miss having the carcass. Nothing like turkey broth for a great soup or risotto.
  12:50pm

This Thanksgiving there's no turkey, but rather spaghetti and meatballs dinner later tonight. Original plans fell through so we improvised.

@Wendy I actually used a bulkie roll

i've never heard of chopped cheese either.
cut, grated, sliced...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

@hyde: Duly noted. I'm totally making this for myself soon. I just got a pound of ground beef from my CSA the other day. Thanks for the idea.
Avatar 1:04pm
hyde:

@Wendy sure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm
coelacanth∅:

"chop" implies a cut straight down, without any back-and-forth (slicing) motion.
it just doesn't seem like it would work with most cheeses.
Avatar 1:05pm
hyde:

@Wendy it might be better on a hoagie styly roll. the bulkie was a little bready
  1:06pm
Dean:

I assume "chopped" refers to the mince, i.e., the ground beef. Thus, "chopped cheese" is kind of an inverted "cheese burger."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

@coel: From what I can glean from the sandwich description, the "chop" -- the cut straight down -- is how you integrate the cheese into the meat. You use the spatula to chop the cheese into the burger while it's cooking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

@hyde: It might be sacrilege, but I might use a potato bun (of the hamburger variety).

Avatar 1:10pm

@coel yeah, Wendy is right. I dunno though, the cheese is American so I didn't even bother to chop it in, it got all nice and melty anyhow
