	12:57pm YETI BOB: It's an odd situation - a friend of mine who I saw last week is now in the hospital with a 103 degree fever. And I'm feeling sick so I assumed he had COVID and passed it to me. But he just got a negative test result, so I don't know what's going on.

	1:17pm YETI BOB: @Carmichael: All their records are good, but "Masana Temples" (the most recent one) is a standout - I play that record A LOT.
	1:18pm TDK60: Brian, Handy's making lunch. NYC has traffic ticket cops, a separate part of the police. Some activists are trying to take that duty away from the NYPD.

	1:21pm TDK60: Society would fall apart fast Brian, of course. (In NYC many South Asians have jobs as ticketkops.)
	1:23pm TDK60: ..as far as I know, the NYC ticket cops are unarmed.
	1:26pm βrian: In Madison, parking patrols occur only in certain zones. We're pretty close to downtown but haven't seen them, even though there's a city-wide reg prohibiting parking for more than 48 hours on a given street.
	1:26pm YETI BOB: @βrian: I think it's a revenue thing, the city makes money from issuing tickets.
	1:27pm YETI BOB: NYC seems like a difficult place to have a car. When I lived there I didn't own one. Here in Chicago the parking rules are a little less Byzantine - none of that "alternate side" stuff. Just street cleaning & snow removal.

	1:33pm βrian: Enforcement for declared snow emergencies is much more aggressive. They've realized that if they can't plow curb-to-curb, chaos will likely ensue.

	♥ 2:14pm Handy Haversack: Back to the parking cops: TDK60, yes, they are unarmed. Their attitude really seems to be that they don't want to give out tickets -- they know it's a racket -- but they will if you are parked on the wrong side of the street during ASP rules. But unlike most cops, they actually know the law and the differences among parking, standing, and stopping. So if someone is sitting in the driver's seat, that car is standing, not parking, and so not ticketable. So it becomes like a mini-block-party these days, with everyone out to wait until they see the cop and then hop in their cars. Though my Bangladeshi neighbor was telling me he once got a ticket while sitting in his car even though no one else did. He took a picture and called the 311 about it, and that parking cop has never come back to the block.

	♥ 2:21pm spodiodi: aloha, βrian, Sylvia, YETI BOB, TDK60, chresti, Carmichael, WR, doctorjazz (like the new pic! looking good:) ), dougseidel, Cmurtha, Stanley, kuba, Really Lisa, Bas, Handy, poor lost owl, dutchtheo! have been repairing a heater (while doing some (more) inadvertent welding, blowing circuits, troubleshooting the blown fuses, etc.), and unboxing and inspecting a repaired/returned laptop (under warranty (barely)), and settling in to do some work. took a while, but glad i was able to listen along most of the time (except for when the wifi was out from blown fuses and troubleshooting) -- very enjoyable ride :)

	1:26pm βrian: In Madison, parking patrols occur only in certain zones. We're pretty close to downtown but haven't seen them, even though there's a city-wide reg prohibiting parking for more than 48 hours on a given street.

	1:27pm YETI BOB: NYC seems like a difficult place to have a car. When I lived there I didn't own one. Here in Chicago the parking rules are a little less Byzantine - none of that "alternate side" stuff. Just street cleaning & snow removal.

	♥ 2:14pm Handy Haversack: Back to the parking cops: TDK60, yes, they are unarmed. Their attitude really seems to be that they don't want to give out tickets -- they know it's a racket -- but they will if you are parked on the wrong side of the street during ASP rules. But unlike most cops, they actually know the law and the differences among parking, standing, and stopping. So if someone is sitting in the driver's seat, that car is standing, not parking, and so not ticketable. So it becomes like a mini-block-party these days, with everyone out to wait until they see the cop and then hop in their cars. Though my Bangladeshi neighbor was telling me he once got a ticket while sitting in his car even though no one else did. He took a picture and called the 311 about it, and that parking cop has never come back to the block.
