Greetings, David and all the Riders! Great photo -- I love the undersides of bridges and highways. I get some nice pix of the NYC bridges from the water.

Hello Chresti!

WR:

I rode the subway last night. Only 1 person who thought wearing his mask on his chin met the requirement of masking in public space. Sadly the low count is likely due to the low number of people on the subway at 9PM and midnight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm
David Dichelle:

WR: Welcome aboard this subway!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
David Dichelle:

Handy: Thanks, by the way. I'd like to see your pictures as well!
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:18pm
Handy Haversack:

And lo! It is with clean Haversack that I return to you!

David, I'll contact you through site. Write me back from an address that can take attachments, and I'll find a selection of them for you.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:20pm
Handy Haversack:

@WR, we have taken it only once since March 16, to get back from Manhattan after a march, Only three other people on it then, all masked.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:21pm
Handy Haversack:

Oh wow, Battlefield Band! These guys put on such a great show. Do you know the song "Celtic Hotel"? Fantastic. That album is really wonderful. "Tail o' the Bank" another corker on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm

Thanks, Handy! And I'll have to look for Celtic Hotel...

digging these versions! -except they ruined immigrant song with autotune. it's still okay though
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 1:55pm

I think that's one kind, YB. The Oxford kind can go in a regular fridge.

I think U.S. rollout will be a race- and class-based disaster with little central planning and big heaping platters of injustice. But maybe I'm a pessimist. I took the under, though!

Coel: Yes, me neither. ;) I do agree in general, though, especially when it takes over completely.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 2:05pm
Handy Haversack:

I really don't know, TDK60. There are a LOT of people out there who should be getting the vaccine before me and Kate. We're relatively young, healthy enough, and have incomes still. I'd like to see it go to the more at-risk and those whose ability to work in order to live has been compromised (though I'd much rather see those two things completely severed, of course). It just seems unlikely to me that a culture as thanatophilic as the U.S.ian one has become is going to be able to get this done with any kind of efficiency, let alone justice. So ... July 4?

@TDK: I am hoping that mass vaccination is one of the early achievements of the Biden administration. I'm prepared to be disappointed but hoping for the best.

There was a large influx into the UK of Indian folks in Uganda when Amin cut loose. Amazing how many African leaders have been in power for longer than you might think is good for the peoples of those countries.

Hmm, Yoweri Museveni has been in power in Uganda since 1986. He hasn't been in the news much in the USA.

Uganda for the win. Lovely music.

@Brian in UK: I have recordings of Norwegian jazz that are sponsored by gov't cultural ministries to help spread their music abroad. Maybe African governments do this too? Some more than others?

YETI BOB, great idea. A few years ago the army takeover in Mali banned music. Think it was in the north of the country. Take away peoples' strength through music and try to control them.
Avatar 🚂 2:38pm
YETI BOB:

@Brian: Right - I saw some shows that were part of the "Festival in the Desert in Exile" - Sidi Toure, Toumani Diabate, a few others.

It did a lot to spread knowledge of Mali's fantastic musical heritage abroad. Of course horrible for the people living there. I think it's lightened up a bit since 2012.
