I know that the "hassled by the man" thing is Peter Fonda but for some reason it sounds like Ron Howard to my ears.

Never get tired of that Seger record. What a monster.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:19pm JG:

I didn't know the hassled by the man thing was Peter Fonda. He was a cool dude. I have a theory that he did more of the directing on Easy Rider than did Hopper , who was indeed , free to get loaded

Hey, clarke!

Love the Hi-Risers! Great morning, thanks Joe.
  12:22pm ww:

high-risers!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:23pm JG:

@ Patrick I had a vinyl copy of Seger's greatest hits in my hand yesterday, but decided not to buy it because it did not contain Get out of Denver
  12:23pm clarke:

hmm.. the only even semi-bad thing seger ever did was Against The Wind - and that ain't half-bad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Fuzzy:

@WONH 12:13 -- Ha! From now on I'll visualize Richie Cunningham delivering that speech at Arnold's!

  12:28pm Jnorton34328:

@Joe B that is the charm of this weird wonderful station, flubs like this
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Michele with One "L":

I pushed the wrong button so we got Neu for a minute instead of the Ventures, but I got this.
Avatar 12:28pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Joe everything we do is unnecessary. Let's not start using that as the litmus test!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Michele with One "L":

I got your back Belock!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Mike From Brooklyn:

Avatar 12:33pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Speaking of the morning show, Joe will be hosting tomorrow!
  12:34pm clarke:

will try to be semi-conscious then, too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm mariano:

Michele: Now I picture the FMU console having a big red "NEU!" button.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Rtintera:

Cool Ears Belock they call him.

Excited for your morning show turn, Joe!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Handy Haversack:

@Phillippe, he fees both guilty and proud of himself. He managed to snag some sort of frosted bun on the bridge, the punk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm David (in London):

For God's sake don't press the big red NEU! button!!!
Oh, on second thoughts...yes...do press the big red NEU! button.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Joel:

Stiv Bators is Alive And Snarling again !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Phillippe Bastille:

He's a good boi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Phillippe Bastille:

I missed the Neu. Can you press the wrong button again please?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm mariano:

clarke: Yeah, tell me about it. 14-foot in my place. Sounds nice, but yeah, cooling and heating are a nightmare, no central, just a window unit. My strategy involves staying in bed under the covers with a small space heater. How you holding up?

David/Phillippe: Life in general could use a big red NEU! button, come to think of it. Oh, and while we're wishing, and undo button would be very nice too.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Handy Haversack:

Soon the NEU! Protocols will require two DJs to flip the cover, insert their NEU! keys, and turn at the same time to operationalize the NEI!
Avatar 12:41pm Hubig Pie:

I only listen to stations that have a big red NEU! button
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Mister Dobalina:

CBGB, not CBGB's.
  12:42pm Tinley Park Randy:

Yes

SCTV, yes!
Avatar 12:42pm Joe B:

that's like correcting someone from hudson county who says happy new years instead of happy new year
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Mister Dobalina:

Beer bottles + eyes = bad combo...simple maths.
  12:42pm clarke:

i have high ceilings, too. but, i have a small room that is easy to heat with a little ceramic. this works until it really gets cold.
  12:43pm P-90:

LOVE that Brinkley impression! Well-written bit too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm David (in London):

Handy, yes, good point, we need some proper security protocols around that. And each of the two keys should be in the shape of Rother and Dinger. If they get lost, you should be able to whistle and the fob will play 'Negativland' back at you.
  12:45pm Tinley Park Randy:

Look up SCTV The Queen Haters on YOUTUBE.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Joel:

Mel's RockPile !!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Krys O.:

I still binge on SCTV clips on YouTube before bed. It puts my mind to right.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Handy Haversack:

This is news we can use, David!
Avatar 12:47pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Nice hearing Tyler Keith here and on Shakin' Street this past Friday!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Krys O.:

If there is a Neu button, is there an Alt one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm mariano:

David: That's a really cool idea. I wonder if German numbers stations used bits of krautrock songs.

Tinley: Was that the punk band on "Mel's Rock Pile"? That one's hilarious.
  12:48pm Jnorton34328:

SCTV always struck me as a copy of SNL
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Krys O.:

My favorite bands on SCTV were The Recess Monkeys and 5 Neat Guys.
Avatar 12:49pm Joe B:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Krys O.:

@Jnorton34328: SCTV was not live and they were always brilliant and that can't be said for SNL.
  12:50pm Tinley Park Randy:

Rick Maranis doing Chiliwacks gone so long is comedy gold.
  12:51pm Tinley Park Randy:

Mariano. Yes
  12:51pm Jnorton34328:

@Joe B maybe because they were from Canada, never found them funny
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Candy-O'67:

Bette Smith is new to me! First time I heard her was on your show last week, Joe. Diggin' her!
Avatar 12:51pm Hubig Pie:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:52pm McGroovey:

Hey, how do you work this thing, anyway?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Krys O.:

I've been watching the SCTV Xmas specials lately. So good.
Avatar 12:52pm Joe B:

i hear you jnorton. millions of people loved friends, i thought it was the worst show i had ever seen on tv
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Candy-O'67:

I don't know about Nane either. New to me and they're from Austin! Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm nickybones:

@krys o: oh my god, so good those specials. oft quoted in this household. haha
  12:53pm Jnorton34328:

Maybe fellow listeners i should watch them on YouTube and give them a second chance
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm mariano:

I think SCTV's aged better overall, and I always found it pound-for-pound funnier than SNL. It's not an entirely fair comparison though because like Krys said, SNL is live sketch comedy, completely different animal than a scripted and recorded show like SCTV (or Flying Circus or MadTV).
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Handy Haversack:

Apparently, I need to know more about Tyler Keith. It's a good thing I have already embraced my own failures, or WFMU would constantly make me feel like I know nothing.

That said, I'm making my lunch!

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Krys O.:

Living Single OTOH which Friends copied was far superior.

Dan Aykroyd is Canadian and was part of Second City.
Avatar 🎸 12:56pm David Shortell:

I read that a surveillance cam recorded the assault of Rick Moranis on a Manhattan street recently.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Krys O.:

There's a segment of one of the SCTV Xmas specials that skewers Neil Simon. Neil Simon's Nutcracker Suite. Andrea Martin does Marsha Mason, Eugene Levy as Judd Hirsch, Joe Flaherty as Alan Alda. Comedy Gold.
Avatar 12:58pm Carmichael:

My favorite SCTV band was the Queen Haters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm mariano:

Joel: Amen! And for Bobby Bittman. "How ya doin'?!" [jazz hands]

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:00pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Are Tyler Keith and John Paul Keith connected?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm mariano:

Krys: They were all so versatile. Kind of a shame how they got typecast in American movies, with Levy and Moranis as the go-to nerds, Candy as the go-to jovial goof, etc.
  1:00pm clarke:

not related

Harry Shearer eulogized his colleague from “The Credibility Gap” on last night’s episode of “Le Show” (harryshearer.com...).
When I saw Harry speak at the old Jewish Community Center in Deal back in 2006, I met him in the lobby afterwards and mentioned that I had the Credibility Gap’s 1971 “Woodshtick” album. Harry retorted “Oh, so you’re the one who bought it!”

@mariano
During my aforementioned meeting with Harry Shearer, I remarked that his objection to prank humor (like in the “Borat” movie that was in theaters at the time) was odd, considering Joe Franklin was fooled into thinking Spinal Tap were real when they appeared on his show. Harry denied that fooling Joe was their intent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm mariano:

David: That's cool, another Tomorrow People fellow sufferer! Yeah, it certainly wasn't the safest thing for a 12- 13-year-old lad in Louisiana in the early 80s to be touting the virtues of a show whose main characters were part of the next evolutionary phase of humanity called Homo superior. Nick Young has a YouTube channel, that man has aged remarkably well.
