I'll be keeping my pants on, thank you very much.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Julie:

That's fine, it's optional!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Happy Christmas Eve, Julie! ... And all!
  7:01pm listener james from westwood:

w00t—Silent night, Dark Night!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:02pm WR:

Yeah, a bit chilly this evening. Thinking hot chocolate with brandy as a warmer.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Handy Haversack:

Yay, Julie and Dark Night: Nights! We're just finishing supper ...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:03pm Julie:

hiya CS, S&M&S, James, WR & Handy!
Avatar 7:07pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:07pm Julie:

Merry Christmas Cha Cha!
Avatar 7:09pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

or in other words, Good Evening C.S., Julie, Summer and Michael and Sylvia, listener james from westwood, WR, Handy Haversack and a merry crimbo too.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:09pm Handy Haversack:

OK! We are sitting down! And fully present. And ready to explore the crazy notion that the longest, darkest, coldest nights of the year can be the warmest and brightest -- thanks to you all!
Avatar 7:09pm C.S.:

Katy overdosed on eggnog. Larry choked on a candy cane. Those are people who died too.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Julie:

strangled by tinsel!
Avatar 7:10pm C.S.:

The worst, Julie.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Handy Haversack:

The next day they got offed -- by the very same reindeer!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:11pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Noddy, indeed, Cha Cha! We like watching the version from Top of the Pops 1983. John Peel introducing them... ten years after the original Christmas #1. Kinda perfect.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:12pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Killed by a falling tree! 🎄
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:13pm Julie:

hiya Ken!!
Avatar 7:16pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@7:11 Summer and Michael and Sylvia: thanks for the tip! I had to look it up, and what do you know, there's also another DJ personality David "Kid" Jensen there. Kinda surprised me he's still DJ'ing.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Handy Haversack:

This must be quite a king!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:21pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Yes, Cha Cha. May be wrong, but it seems Peel is rather taking the piss re: Jensen...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Handy Haversack:

Are E.T. and the droid that landed on Hoth and found the rebel base standing in that gymnasium? Are they ... going out for a team?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:37pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Yay! We embrace your "damnation" in true Christmas spirit, Julie! <3
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Handy Haversack:

Julie, you should get some sort of Drummer Stream MVP award for this season!

Warm, blue sky & feeling very relaxed, thanks Julie. I hope yours will we similar 😎
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm dale:

this sounds like ralph lundsten from the 70s.
  7:49pm Dean:

Will tune in after this *amazing* CD of Édouard Risler's only recordings, all from 1917, wrap up here. Beautiful pianism from a time not quite lost, thanks to Ward Marston. Also, gotta deliver my daughter's (with some assistance from me) fresh baked chocolate chip cookies to the neighbors.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Julie:

haha okay Dean, good to keep busy
  7:52pm listener James from Westwood:

Reminded of when I saw The Nomi Song in one of NYC’s wee art theaters and really missing that experience. Glad to have done it and to hear this track, for which they showed the video in that film.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm dale:

it takes work to achieve that hairstyle.
  7:53pm Dean:

Here's a taste. Can't say for sure that it's Marston's transcriptions from the 78s, but still, dig that mustache.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdDCN2Bwp64
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Julie:

yes I saw it in the theatre too. I still kinda want a biopic of him
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:54pm WR:

I love Nomi more everytime I hear him.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Handy Haversack:

Word, WR. Same here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm JayD:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm dale:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Julie:

I hadn't thought that far ahead. Hiya Jay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm dale:

i watched rocketman a it back because people were raving. it was like glee. hated it.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Julie:

they'd probably put harry styles in it or something
  7:58pm Dean:

I'd want to see Klaus play Tomata and vice versa, but sadly neither performance can occur. But why can't anybody portray him? Theater is not exclusively, or even all that much, about verisimilitude.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Handy Haversack:

Bill Murray?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm Mr. Pumpy:

No, Handy. Just me, Pumpy.

Avatar 8:20pm C.S.:

For a second I thought Julie was playing The Orb's "Little Fluffy Clouds" Both songs start off with a rooster.
  8:20pm Dean:

Saw these lovely 45 Grave folks once in LA. A mere vestige of The Germs, but that'll do.

Avatar 8:57pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

I have lost track of time and my memory is shot - but was there any special celebrations this October? I mean this show turned 10 then!
  8:57pm Dean:

I'm gunning for 2024, frankly, or 2028. This year has been bad; I fear we're in for much worse.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Julie:

haha Cha Cha I don't think so but it's nice of you to point that out
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Handy Haversack:

Bagels secured, doctorjazz?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:00pm Julie:

this year has certainly separated the wheat from the chaff people wise, painful but good in the long wrong I hope
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:01pm Julie:

Genesis is good drink making music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm doctorjazz:

Yup, Handy, and lox and tuna salad for tomorrow (have 1 really good bagel place in town).
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:01pm Handy Haversack:

"The long wrong" is a good name for the Capitalocene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02pm coelacanth∅:

this is really the only genesis album i like.
Avatar 9:02pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@8:59 Julie: OK, I just started wondering today, whether the extended duration & theme hour would've something to do with that. But a belated "Happy 10th anniversary" greeting to your show Julie.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:02pm Julie:

this is the first one I got, recommended by a friend
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:02pm Julie:

thanks Cha Cha! No it was just lucky timing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02pm coelacanth∅:

...or - *really* like. i like most of them before this. (not the first one)
  9:03pm Dean:

I'll disagree. This year has not separated wheat from chaff, not by any stretch.
Avatar 9:03pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@9:01 Julie: Please do not tempt me, i have way too much alcohol in my kitchen, and I love Genesis!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Julie:

I didn't have a show for 4-5 years so it's really hard to say 10 years
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:03pm Julie:

@dean No? You have not realized which of your family and friends are fair weather this year?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03pm doctorjazz:

Never listened to Genesis at all (have downloads of their albums), will check it out (or, at least, it's in line to get listened to).
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Julie:

I usually go for Gabriel-era Genesis but the first couple with Phil are quite good as well
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Handy Haversack:

Bubble Puppy making a strong case that we reinstate the Dark Night Hairlympics!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:04pm Julie:

oh hey these guys are from my hometown, San Antonio
  9:05pm Dean:

Not at all. I'm well aware of those divisions, but they have nothing to do with this year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm coelacanth∅:

wind & wuthering is sort of a steppig stone for them, from "prog" toward masses-friendly pop. the chemistry works though, in my opinion.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Julie:

well, things became much more obvious for me this year for sure.
Avatar 9:05pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

With Genesis, it's all good up to and including that 1983 eponymous album, though Abacab is a bit of a stinker
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Julie:

Handy that might be a good bonus hour, I could pick bands based on good or weird hair
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Julie:

Isn't That's All on Genesis, I do like that one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm coelacanth∅:

i love Gabriel, especially the first 4 albums; but have never been grabbed by Gabriel-era genesis. i don't know why.
  9:07pm Lisa Hammer:

I'm not good with trivia but, didn't Kate date Peter Gabriel?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Handy Haversack:

Wow, Julie, the choices might get overwhelming! THAT SAID: do it!!

Ahhh, noninstrumental Mazzy Star. Sigh. Enormous, years-long sighs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm chresti:

Hi Julie and merry souls!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Julie:

I don't know that they dated, they did collaborate some
  9:07pm Dean:

Selling England By the Pound...I mean, c'mon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm coelacanth∅:

hey chresti!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:08pm Julie:

hiya chresti!
Avatar 9:08pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Duetting if not dating, yes.
  9:08pm Lisa Hammer:

Yes I love their duet of the I think Tim Buckley song?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:08pm Handy Haversack:

Hi, chresti!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:08pm Julie:

I mean I think he got the fairlight first, and that was a big part of The Dreaming. But she was with Del Palmer for a really long time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm coelacanth∅:

abacab isn't terrible; but i never find myself putting it on.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:09pm Julie:

Another Day? I THINK that's a Roy Harper song
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:09pm Uncle Michael:

A lot of post-Gabriel Genesis is...not terrible. (faint praise)
  9:10pm Lisa Hammer:

Yes! The video makes my eyes rain
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:10pm Julie:

from her xmas special. She did some stuff with Roy as well.
  9:10pm Dean:

So charitable, Uncle Michael, and yet so entirely false.
  9:10pm Lisa Hammer:

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:10pm Uncle Michael:

It's all terrible?
  9:11pm Dean:

If you have to ask, you'll never know.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:11pm Julie:

I confess I have never listed to Abacab or Then There Were Three
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:11pm Uncle Michael:

My opinions are incorrect?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm Mr. Pumpy:

Hello again. Bubble Puppy!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:12pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:12pm Julie:

Avatar 9:12pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@9:11 Julie: what?! YOU introduced me to post-Gabriel Genesis with this show! How shocking :)
  9:12pm Dean:

Your opinions, qua opinions, are perfectly suitable.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:13pm Julie:

as listeners know I am madly in love with the very first album which has no similarity to anything else they ever did
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm Mr. Pumpy:

Julie! I'm back. How are all these accu-listers treating you? Fine...I'm sure.

I've so missed seeing the Uncle Michael / Julie avatar synchronized head bob.

  9:15pm Dean:

That is not true, Julie. The first album and Trespass are not *that* remote, musically speaking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15pm doctorjazz:

Bass is e place (Magarill reminds me so much of Joni)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:15pm Julie:

hmm I will revisit trespass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm Mr. Pumpy:

It's so nice to be back here right now. I love my pops, but damn is he ornery these days. Even compliments are met with defense and disdain. So it goes... The music is a cure-all! Thanks, Julie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:16pm Julie:

you're very welcome Mr Pumpy!
Avatar 9:17pm C.S.:

Mr. Pumpy, it's tough to get old.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:17pm Uncle Michael:

"Nice haircut!"

"What was wrong with the way I used to wear it?"
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:18pm Miles of Middle Texas:

Enjoying .Thanks Julie ! I'm still catching up on Tuesdays 7 hour show. And tomorrow too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm Mr. Pumpy:

C.S., clearly.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Handy Haversack:

This ... is not the Stormbringer I'm used to!

Miles, Julie for Drummer Stream MVP! Vote early, vote often!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Julie:

woohoo Hi Miles! I am usually in the middle of TX this time of year. Please enjoy it for me. I bought a case of Big Red so at least I have that.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:20pm Julie:

i found John Martyn because Elton covered a bunch of his songs early on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm doctorjazz:

Didn't know John Martyn had a group with his wife for a while, know him as a solo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm doctorjazz:

(think I have a box of Martyn somewhere...)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Handy Haversack:

I'm so pleased that Vashti Bunyan had a revival in the aughts. Sometimes the talented are summoned by the cosmos, and another go is required.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:26pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Bubble Puppy reported to be 13th Floor Elevator understudies a bit - some kind of successor on the TX scene...
Avatar 9:28pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@9:24 Mr. Pumpy: Yes! She also probably got to do way more live performances the second time around than in the 1960s.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:28pm Julie:

Mr Pumpy I feel that way about Nick Drake
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & my brother had the Hot Smoke & Sassafras 45 by BP in my earliest years - a garage psych classic. & goes deep...
'Understudy' overstating it - sorry...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm doctorjazz:

Opening reminded me of FOW (Happy Ending)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:29pm Julie:

ooh Rev I will have to get that one too then!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:29pm Julie:

which reminds me everyone said the other day I need Hot Tuna, which album?
  9:29pm Cronbat:

I saw Bubble Puppy quite a few times. They were coeval with the Elevators.
There's a Steve Ray Vaughn tune where he busts a few bars of the Rod Prince solo from "Jennifer Wrote me a Letter" I can't recall the tune, though...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:30pm Julie:

hey there Cronbat!
Avatar 9:30pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

@9:28 Julie: it's very sad he was no longer here for that. He was apparently very upset his music did not become successful back then.
  9:31pm Cronbat:

Loving the show, Julie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:31pm WR:

Only relationship of Bubble Puppy to the Elevators was initially being on International Artist label. There were plenty other psychedelic bands popping up, Fever Tree and a couple others that release records (including Billy Gibbons second band, the Moving Sidewalks (a mix of Elevators & Hendrix). Many others that didn't.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:31pm Julie:

thank you! it is a shame he didn't get the fame he deserved but then I think he almost never played out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm Mr. Pumpy:

Julie...yes! Sad he wasn't around to get back into it.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:32pm Julie:

the scars fascinate me. one perfect album a couple singles and then boom gone
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Handy Haversack:

The outfits alone are from another world, one with geometries far different from those Euclid dared to describe ...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Performing Live didn't work out for Drake. People told him he was great - & he knew it ! - but he just wasn't promoted successfully & didn't sell ! It devastated him & killed him I think we can say.
Avatar 9:34pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Yes, Nick Drake's live performances were very few and if his contemporaries are to be believed, also slightly erratic in some respects - long tuning breaks between songs without any attempts at communicating with his audience
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:34pm Julie:

I wouldn't say that. It didn't help his depression but I doubt that caused it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Mr. Pumpy:

"Euclid was a pussy" HH
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Handy Haversack:

At least a beard, Mr. P!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Mr. Pumpy:

Julie, I agree. I'd say he wasn't really cut out for the whole touring thing. Many artists aren't.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Well - chicken or egg perhaps : personality such that live shows collapsed - didn't sell...
Thx for more on BubblePuppy folks. Followed Elevators on the IA label... I read 'Eye Mind' some time ago now...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:39pm Julie:

the best artists are the most sensitive and not cut out for a very insensitive business
  9:39pm Danne D:

Merre Merre Julie and Everyone!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:39pm Julie:

thank you Danne!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm Mr. Pumpy:

Handy, imagine the wildly shaped die we'd be rolling on Sundays if Euclid had only possessed a bit more chutzpah!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:41pm WR:

I Got You Babe is a great song to be re-contextualized repeatedly.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Performing is quite a thing unto itself. Ironically once people heard the recordings - it got across completely.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:42pm Handy Haversack:

Or Platonic gases ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm Mr. Pumpy:

Julie, I'd not say that is a rule, but very common, indeed! And when so many start out so young, showing their art to the world, and most likely being exploited by someone trying to ride their coattails...uggghh.
  9:42pm Dean:

Somehow, I don't think Rossini was "sensitive," yet he is clearly one of the "best artists." There are plenty of artists who manage the business. Don't buy into the baloney about the psychology of who makes art.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

McCartney thrives on Performing. It made Lennon sick !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Mr. Pumpy:

I'm rolling in Platonic gases from now on. Maybe I'll start with liquids, as to not seem too radical.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:45pm Julie:

I'm not buying into any baloney, I'm very sensitive as are many artists I know
Avatar 9:45pm Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Craig Smith comes to mind immediately. Immensely talented, way too sensitive and in the end homeless and piss-poor while not seeing a cent royalty-wise for the songs he wrote for The Monkees, Glen Campbell, Andy Williams etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Little Danny:

Hi Julie,, hi all!
Avatar 9:49pm C.S.:

Locally, there was a great musician who could play just about any instrument and founded or was in many bands. Yet he had to work in a grocery store to make ends meet. He eventually took his own life. I can only imagine what his demons were but it seems great talent often comes with some price whether it's not being able to relate to a lot of people or odd quirks, etc.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yeah talent & creativity may go with entertaining - or they may absolutely not. & then business deals are another thing again - & how. Business killed TheBeatles more than anything in the end - & they are the biggest thing ever. Victims of their success in several ways.
Avatar 9:51pm C.S.:

Where did those three hours go?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm Mr. Pumpy:

Julie...I'm not buying any baloney either!

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:57pm WR:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Handy Haversack:

To spend the early hours of Xmas Day (euro-time) with you sould of the dark night is by no means a bad thing, not at all. Merry whatever you choose or choose not to celebrate! Thanks again julie, see you in 23 hours!
