It's so nice to be back here right now. I love my pops, but damn is he ornery these days. Even compliments are met with defense and disdain. So it goes... The music is a cure-all! Thanks, Julie!

I saw Bubble Puppy quite a few times. They were coeval with the Elevators.
There's a Steve Ray Vaughn tune where he busts a few bars of the Rod Prince solo from "Jennifer Wrote me a Letter" I can't recall the tune, though...

hey there Cronbat!
Avatar 9:30pm

@9:28 Julie: it's very sad he was no longer here for that. He was apparently very upset his music did not become successful back then.

Cronbat:

Loving the show, Julie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm
WR:

Only relationship of Bubble Puppy to the Elevators was initially being on International Artist label. There were plenty other psychedelic bands popping up, Fever Tree and a couple others that release records (including Billy Gibbons second band, the Moving Sidewalks (a mix of Elevators & Hendrix). Many others that didn't.
Avatar 🦇 9:31pm

Performing Live didn't work out for Drake. People told him he was great - & he knew it ! - but he just wasn't promoted successfully & didn't sell ! It devastated him & killed him I think we can say.
Avatar 9:34pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Yes, Nick Drake's live performances were very few and if his contemporaries are to be believed, also slightly erratic in some respects - long tuning breaks between songs without any attempts at communicating with his audience
Avatar 🦇 9:34pm
Julie:

I wouldn't say that. It didn't help his depression but I doubt that caused it

Or Platonic gases ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm
Mr. Pumpy:

Julie, I'd not say that is a rule, but very common, indeed! And when so many start out so young, showing their art to the world, and most likely being exploited by someone trying to ride their coattails...uggghh.
  9:42pm
Dean:

Somehow, I don't think Rossini was "sensitive," yet he is clearly one of the "best artists." There are plenty of artists who manage the business. Don't buy into the baloney about the psychology of who makes art.
Avatar 🦇 9:43pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

McCartney thrives on Performing. It made Lennon sick !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm

I'm rolling in Platonic gases from now on. Maybe I'll start with liquids, as to not seem too radical.
Avatar 🦇 9:45pm
Julie:

I'm not buying into any baloney, I'm very sensitive as are many artists I know
Avatar 9:45pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Craig Smith comes to mind immediately. Immensely talented, way too sensitive and in the end homeless and piss-poor while not seeing a cent royalty-wise for the songs he wrote for The Monkees, Glen Campbell, Andy Williams etc.

Hi Julie,, hi all!
Avatar 9:49pm
C.S.:

Locally, there was a great musician who could play just about any instrument and founded or was in many bands. Yet he had to work in a grocery store to make ends meet. He eventually took his own life. I can only imagine what his demons were but it seems great talent often comes with some price whether it's not being able to relate to a lot of people or odd quirks, etc.
Avatar 🦇 9:50pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yeah talent & creativity may go with entertaining - or they may absolutely not. & then business deals are another thing again - & how. Business killed TheBeatles more than anything in the end - & they are the biggest thing ever. Victims of their success in several ways.
