Good Wednesday, Ridgewoodians and all!

I used to be fly on the wall in an early email list on theremin. I think Rob Schwimmer was regular participant. I wonder if I have the emails archived somewhere. Probably not, i think that HD fried. All ears here now.

It was normal for us, not doubled.

Hello James and WR and ruth! I forgot to turn off my WFMU monitor so I got scrambled. Thanks for the help!

I always think I'm gonna hate the theremin cause I've heard so much hokey haunted house soundtracky nonsense played omit but end up loving it.

Hi I was over with Scott, now ready for theremin and related contact free devices.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:23pm
david w:

Ha! Yes this is contact free music!
Avatar 5:24pm
still b/p:

I played an old Google doodle theremin to get ready. It has a theremin sound but has notes for an octave-and a-half marked and separated. So it's only theremin-ish -- not contact free. Also not pain-free for anyone who heard my Moon River.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm

I have a Theremax that I built, it needs some tweaking. The Theremini is pretty good and has MIDI out and some pitch quantization (although I'm pretty sure only to 12EDO).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm
Webhamster Henry:

My app AUMI is a video motion tracker that triggers sounds, so , it's a little thereminical. I could use the same tech to make it drive a synth algorithm though.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:28pm
david w:

AUMI is cool, folks intrigued by the theremin should look it up!

Yusef Lateef included a theremin track on a 1966 record. My hero!

I haven't kept up my interest in Theremin in many many years. Did not know about all the activity last year for the 100 year anniversary. Just read on the wikipedia page that in 2019 there was a "worlds largest theremin ensemble performance in Japan, 289 theremins. Looking around a bit and there is a whole active world out there.

βrian: if you don't have theremini you can substitute a similar quantity of otamatone
Avatar 6:20pm
βrian:

@ranjit: Sadly, otamatone prompts severe anaphylactic episodes, though now that I think of it ... only with vocal inputs.

So maybe that would work.
Avatar 6:26pm

Wasn't there a Lost in Space episode that featured the theremin? I'm guessing only June Lockhart could to it justice.

For anyone "tuning in late" you can come back to this same playlist page and the show is archived for future playback. When playing from the archive if you wish you can move the player forward and back to focus on the parts that interest you most.

Normally a show is archived within an hour of finishing.
