The siren section reminds me of Russolo's shows w/ intonarumori or some of Satie's later more radical pieces...

Ike:

Hi there. Ah, this was once my favorite show. It ran from 1963 to 1989, then in 1996, then from 2005 to the present. Too bad it's currently being burnt to the ground by a terrible writer/showrunner, but it'll recover someday....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm
spodiodi:

it's about perfect, james
Avatar 6:34pm
northguineahills:

I used to have a Delia Derbyshire poster. I made the mistake of pissing off my partner when she moved in, and she ripped my posters to shreds.

Ike! james! spodi! ngh! I love that you know this stuff!
Avatar 6:36pm
northguineahills:

Researching Delia made me a Who Head (Although I've only seen all of the episodes from the late 70s forward [they get more and more wonky before then])
Avatar 6:38pm
northguineahills:

@Ike: I agree: The last two Drs. and cast were great actors, but, the showrunner/writers have made just above average.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:39pm
listener james from westwood:

For some reason I want to say one of our voices here is actually DD's, if only bc it sounds like her in that one film of her demo'ing her gear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm
spodiodi:

David, i love that you're playing her stuff (so welcome today)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm
Ike:

@NGH, I'd say Tom Baker's first three years (seasons 12-14, so 1975-77 or so) are the best of the classic era, when there was a producer who kept it gothic and creepy, and usually had enough restraint not to blow through the tiny effects budget in absurd ways. I think a lot of those 70s eps are free on Dailymotion (shhhh).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm
Webhamster Henry:

The "Bad trip" portion of the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm
spodiodi:

Tom BAker was *it*. the rest are meh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm

Tom Baker also made an excellent Puddleglum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm
StringOFperils:

He had great scarves.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:42pm

Had they made a Lord of the Rings film in the early 80s, he'd have been a capital Tom Bombadil. And I ordinarily hate Tom Bombadil.
Avatar 6:42pm

Well, there was the dream tracks in Ashley's Private Parts...(also creepy, in a different way), but beautiful as well....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm

my gf (when i was 18) knitted me a looooong scarf because she knew how much i loved Dr. (Tom Baker) Who's scarf

Hey Spod! Pass the sonic screwdriver, I need to adjust my outlook.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:43pm

A little dark, but brilliant. There are 5 or 6 other sections. All amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm
Ike:

@NGH@6:38, Peter Capaldi had some great ones. It was very very inconsistent, but that showrunner, Moffat, at least *tried* to knock it out of the park, and sometimes succeeded. The current showrunner is just so incredibly boring and flat. The characters are complete cardboard. The Doctor is barely a presence. That poor lady deserves a chance to show her stuff. She's getting nothing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm
Webhamster Henry:

My kids enjpyed the Who Experience in Cardiff.

Proof that publicly funded art can be immortal. All hail that era's BBC.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:47pm

(Or at least the part that kept the Workshop alive like some odd radio version of Fox Mulder's basement FBI office.)

Amen. And speaking of Ashley, early WNET Channel 13 in New York.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm
Ike:

For those who have never seen Doctor Who, check out the Tom Baker serial "The Ark in Space" from 1975. The show had a miserably tiny special effects budget, so they make creative use of bubble wrap painted green in that one. It actually kinda works. Might be on Dailymotion.
