Happily almost New Year!
  12:12pm
Peter K.:

Did Chick Corea steal licks from Frank Zappa, or was it vice versa? Or was there just something in the air?
  12:13pm
Peter K.:

I also have a feeling '21 is gonna be a good year. Or at least a better one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm
Webhamster Henry:

1921 was a kind of a lousy year.
Avatar 12:14pm
Stork:

THAT's THE SONG!! With Katie on vox!
  12:15pm
Peter K.:

As I recall, Henry, 1921 wasn't so bad. But I was very young at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm
Irene Trudel:

Stork, I like to keep people guessing.Hey, Peter K, Henry and Michael! Peter, I think I agree on both points about Chick and '21.

Irene as a follow on when Larry covered your show a couple of weeks & played Jimmie Spheeris, I found this link to a rare live recording from 1974. Never saw him but he sounds good. Also hitting the high note on I Am The Mercury impressed me. Thought you might like a listen.

That's probably how I'd look if ever let into the station's record library. Probably my last pic ever as it might take a SWAT team to get me out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm
Irene Trudel:

Ooh, thanks for the reminder about Jimmie Spheeris. might play something by him later. Meanwhile, I just played someone Larry turned me onto-- John Buck Wilkin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm
Irene Trudel:

fred, the WFMU library is even bigger now, with an added center aisle. Too bad none of us are allowed in to access it since the lockdown. I gotta rely on the KeepTru music collection, which is also (thankfully) pretty substantial.

Late to the party. Hey Irene, All!
  1:17pm
Peter K.:

Shawn Phillips lived in South Africa for quite a while but has lived in Louisville since 2016. And yeah, that hair!
  1:23pm
Peter K.:

John Buck Wilkin is the son of Marijohn Wilkin, a prolific country songwriter whose compositions include "Long Black Veil." Bizarrely, he was also the lead singer of Ronny and the Daytonas, the Beach Boys soundalike band best known for "GTO."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
Irene Trudel:

Thanks Peter! Glad I was right about Phillips' South Africa connection. I think Guitarist Guy Buttery was a friend of his when he lived there. I also forgot to mention Wilkin collaborated with Kris Kristofferson on a few tunes on this album.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm

Yes, Brian, that Joni track is on the new compilation of early works. Haven't had a chance to digest it all yet. What we've heard is really great so far.
