	5:05pm Mr Fab: I read an interesting article about the Yakuza. It turns out that there IS crime in Japan, but the Yakuza are so ingrained into Japanese society that many times the cops won't go after them. It's just business as usual.

	5:20pm Mike Rogers: In Japan's past, the police and the Yakuza came from the same place so the police won't generally mess with the Yakuza either.

	5:21pm Mike Rogers: I'll make this short. See? A long time ago, the government got rid of the warlords. Then all these samurai suddenly had no job. So they became Ronin and started roaming the countryside. They began robbing the village people.

	5:22pm Mike Rogers: So, the village people got the young men to start guarding their towns. (This is where Japanese police boxes came from) But you can't work 24 hours a day so....

	5:25pm Mike Rogers: So different towns handled the situation differently, but the are was the police boxes. And now you know the rest of the story.

	5:26pm Mike Rogers: So, you can have a big town where the chief of police is the, say, brother or brother in law of the local Yakuza.
	5:27pm Mike Rogers: Shinjuku got all F'ed up when the Yakuza left. Now it's wild.
	5:27pm Mike Rogers: But, it's still Japan, so not too crazy, but it doesn't feel like Japan.
	5:29pm Mike Rogers: Aitch san! Yeah, if a guy is missing a pinky finger, best to be very polite to him and leave as quietly as you can.
