I just saw the Oppenheimer movie yesterday, I thought Murphy did a great job in the title role, but there were so many close-ups of his face where I kept getting distracted by his ear piercings! Surprised they did not cover that with makeup or CGI it out.

Did you mean Tim Roth in Made In Britain (1982)? I'd put Roth's role as Trevor, the neo-nazi up there with one of the most convincingly realistic initial roles of all time. It's odd because Tim Roth, Russell Crowe, Edward Norton, and Ryan Gosling all seem to have gotten their big acting career breaks by playing hate-fueled young men. Made In Britain needs to be watched more.

Salesman (1969), the film about the door-to-door bible salesmen is pretty amazing. I couldn't believe that entire film was a genuine documentary, not somehow a bit canned, yet I guess most documentaries are in a way contrived whenever the subjects of the film have some degree of awareness to the fact that they're being filmed. It tends to change things.

Inception (2010)? I think they used some combination of Kubrick-inspired set design and some miniatures which were enlarged later on. Inception is based upon a short story by Jorge Luis Borges entitled The Circular Ruins. Nolan seems to have taken that circular ruin concept and adapted it to be the dream-within-a-dream.

Right? Now someone just needs to create a movie inspired by Borges' The Library of Babel. I guess that Neal Stephenson with his Anathem novel and a few other authors have already riffed upon some of the Borges themes within The Library of Babel. Cube (1997), the film about the people who wake up in the giant trap-filled Rubik's cube sorta replaces the hexagonal rooms with squared off rooms.

I am not a comic person [we were too poor to buy them in 1960s Bklyn] but he is amazing .. Schizo #1 and everything else .. also his critic when Karl Schultz died and the BrooHaa that erupted ..

I'll have a look re: Jesse Jacobs ... as I said, grew up without comics so not a keen fan .. St Marks Comics was next to where I worked in the 80s = St Marks Boookshop and made some friends and so some crossover... Artist Eric Drooker is a long time friend who went from rags to homeownership ... for me .. Brunetti is looking all the shite dead on and laughing at our plight ...
