It had previously been popular as a silent film, with J. Warren Kerrigan as the sexy star of that version. A lot of films got re-made after the introduction of sound, particularly the popular ones.

Yes, there were pirates at this time, and some rebels were sold into slavery. But as far as I understand, "Captain Blood's" life story is fiction.

	🎸 ♥ 10:07pm Austin Rich: Errol Flynn is NOT in the original of "Trade Winds." Lux Radio Theater often had other stars come in and play roles that they COULD have been cast for. It's a nice way to get another take on a story, with another popular star. These shows WERE controversial, as people often love to argue that the original are better, no matter what. Still... it's fun to have shows like this, where you get to do a little fantasy casting.

His purpose, according to Seldes, was to perpetrate a hoax that he triggered by sending an "apparently harmless" telegram from Madrid to Paris. The following day, American newspapers published an erroneous report that Flynn had been killed at the Spanish front. "The next day he left Spain ... . There were no ambulances, no medical supplies, no food for the Spanish Republic, and not one cent of money. Maybe a new word is in order—a travestery comiromance, or a dramalogue of travesty."

Yes, there were pirates at this time, and some rebels were sold into slavery. But as far as I understand, "Captain Blood's" life story is fiction.

It's a nice way to get another take on a story, with another popular star. These shows WERE controversial, as people often love to argue that the original are better, no matter what. Still... it's fun to have shows like this, where you get to do a little fantasy casting.
