As mentioned and hinted at for a while, here is the series that I love, staring Frank Sinatra. Sadly, some of the shows are not great, in quality. But they are all pretty enjoyable.

This is the first episode. Here's more information about the show:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:06pm
Austin Rich:

There are only 25 episodes, so we'll turn this one around pretty quickly, but not as fast as Candy Matson. There were only ever 25 episodes made, so we'll play the entire run.

As the story goes: Frank was sort of "in-between" projects, and needed a regular gig. So he decided to dabble in radio as a lot of others were doing the same. You'll notice that he doesn't sing, at least not in any of the episodes I can remember. I suspect this was on purpose; keep the gigs separate.

WebHamster Henry, does this volume seem a little low? I've have to crank up the volume.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:10pm
Austin Rich:

The show was created by a Dimestore Radio Theater alumni George Lefferts, who was one of the people adapted scripts (and occasionally writing Sci-Fi) for Dimension X and X-Minus One. This was after his run on Dimension X, and he called his old writing partner in, Ernest Kinoy. They had previous only written Sci-Fi together, and they would go on to write Sci-Fi after this. But, during the break, they took a chance on a "noir" flavored, "everyman" style detective show.

One final note regarding "Rocky Fortune": you'll probably recognize a number of the musical transitions used on this show. As an NBC show, Lefferts and Kinoy had access to the NBC sound library, which was also what they used for Dimension X and X-Minus 1. (And, on a number of other NBC shows, too.) So, if it sounds familiar... you know why!

I'm sort of shocked that a "remastered" version of Rocky Fortune hasn't come out yet. Seems like the Sinatra estate usually cashes in where there's money to be made. And, as I understand it, there's a few fans who have assembled collections of all the episodes, on transcription discs.

Fascinating! This show is glossed over in Sinatra bios. The usual narrative is: making increasingly crappy records for Columbia, scores a plum role in the film "From Here To Eternity," and career explodes.
But this show demonstrates that he was keeping up his acting chops.

I was just watching a thing from when Heathen was released and Bowie does a lovely impression of Bing. My understanding of the dislike is it wasn't that. One thing that will plague our show for a while: X-Minus One is shorter by a bit, between 20 and 25 minutes, which means there's more time for ads. (X-Minus One, unlike Dimension X, was actually sort of popular.) And Rocky Fortune, since it started Frank, was also a little short. So there will probably be more music breaks, and "Dimestore Revelations" will be a little long. Sort of like the way the show was when we launched.

These kinds of "sign up to join a ship to make a long of money" gigs do exist, all over the West Coast. (I assume East Coast, too.)
