Do you know the British 'magician' (though he never calls himself that) Derren Brown? I once saw him to 'the Oracle Act', which is an old routine from the Victorian / Edwardian era, and it was astonishing.

He's well worth watching. He's such an acute observer of human beings (and gifted with such a phenomenal memory) that he can do amazing things. He once beat a load of chess grandmasters by playing each simultaneously and using the games to effectively make them play each other with him as a conduit, remembering it all.

I have a friend who've I've know all her life - since she was a baby really. I worked for her father building sets. One day her and her mom came to a job we were working on. She was a teenager by this time. She was wearing a Man Or Astroman tee-shirt! From that day forward she was on my radar.

I hadn't seen her in years, but then her father died. At the memorial we sat together, and have been hanging out ever since.

It took her fathers death for us to come together. I asked her one day how this happened. She said: "You're one of the first people I ever remember seen at our house that wasn't my family."

How things happen, I guess.

The Specials played in L.A. for the first time in Spring of 1980. The Alleycats, a popular local band opened. Me and my girlfriend at the time went. We had been going to lots of punk shows, but she decided that night she had enough. Her and I never went to a show together again.

I should have seen it as a sign - it was grinding to a halt. It took her another year to move out, but I was to stupid to realize what was happening.

One day in 1979 I was playing Sioxsie and the Banshees when a friend of my girlfriends came over. He said "No,No!" and made and ugly face. Later I asked her what's his problem anyway? She said "He's just jealous I picked you over him." They had know each other for years and then I showed up."

I did it to him twice. After her and I got broke up, I got with one of her friends just like that. He was really steamed, becuase he wanted her too, and she picked me instead!
That's what all this music reminds me of: '78 - '81.

Everbody need a soundtrack for when your life really kicks into gear, and this is it!

Well honestly - Bono's done more against hunger in Africa (say) than I have lately... Just pompous is all.
U2 were the Alternative Act got the biggest Mainstream success. No way was that gonna be easy...
Hard for me to remember a time I thot U2 was Kewl ...but I know it happened. Then again - I had the early LPs ...but I don't think I ended up spinning them so much... In that Time - was a thing some of us were hoping & searching for a replacement for the Spiritual void left by TheWho aging out. I don't know why nobody sat me down & planted TheClash's first album in my lap & told me to think about it...
