lou costello was on a variety show and there was a scene where someone was supposed to break a bottle over his head. the person grabbed the wrong bottle and instead of the prop bottle broke a real glass bottle over his head. it's painful to watch because he looks like he's about to die.

Thanks for the SCTV clip, Mr. Fab. ISTR a version of that bit also being done on "Post Serial" -- a weekly comedy program of the 1980s on WCWP, Brookville. Probably every troupe with a radio show of long enough duration has gotten around to it eventually.
