I only just realized that we had a Superb Owl the other day, and that was WELL after I assembled this show for this day. This is the SECOND time that Rocky Fortune just HAPPENED to fall on the right day, to line up with an American Holiday. So weird.

This is one of two episodes that have two "slightly different" versions, depending on where you heard it. There was a version heard on regular broadcast radio, and another, slightly different version, on Armed Forces Radio. I have sort of combined the two; the main difference in AFRS version is the theme song is looped and played longer at the end of the story. I've tried to combine the two versions for you, here, tonight.

This show does not shy away from some of the worse aspects of low-life culture, and certainly does depict things in pretty rough ways. I think there is more than one example of violence against women that's been depicted in this show. It's not easy to hear, certainly. This show can get pretty grim, even with Sinatra in the lead.

Which Beatle was the blue one? Paul was the cute one, John was the intellectual, George, the quiet one. I'm guessing Pete Best. If I was kicked out of the biggest band ever just before they made it, I'd be feeling pretty blue.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:27pm

Oh, I assumed a "Blue Beetle" was some "Buddy Holly & The Crickets" reference. (Someone being clever.)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:29pm

Or maybe its a "Muppet Band" reference. I suspect they had a "Beetles" band at one point, and I'm sure one fo them was "blue."

Real superpowers would be like:

-always having enough money
-knowing what women want
-being able to do math
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Song: ""A Logic Named Joe"" by "X-Minus One"
Another story we've heard before, on "Dimension X." This was the last episode of 1955, and they were going into 1956 knowing they were going to continue. I think they were gearing up for their run in the following year, where the majority of the episodes would be NEW stories that had not been heard on Dimension X or X Minus One.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Mr Fab @10:38
I'm bad at math, too. I have no idea what other people are thinking, of either gender.

The always having enough money: I think we need to start printing our own. That would fix things!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
yerfriendpaul:

↳ Heather @10:37
Yeah, the more I think of it, I wouldn’t want invisibility to be my power. Unless it could be used to escape salespeople
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
Austin Rich:

There's an extremely grim portrayal of a kid in this story, and while I won't comment on it being "accurate" or not, I think it's interesting how this story is presented with "comic" music cues, and then has some downright terrifying story beats, afterwards. Feels like an interesting exercise in black comedy... in 1955!
Avatar 10:41pm
Mr Fab:

'74 was a bit early, but still - not a bad prediction of the internet.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:42pm

  🎸 10:43pm
Heather:

↳ yerfriendpaul @10:39
There was a This American Life ages ago where they had a segment on flight v invisibility and they kind of leaned toward invisibility was pretty sneaky and maybe flight was better. But. Does being able to fly mean one is no longer scared of heights? If not... don't mind me. Just invisible over here.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Austin Rich:

I think, when you write about the near future in a sci-fi sense, you can "accidentally" predict things more accurately than if you set a story in the distant future. (That's my theory, anyway.)

Austin Rich:

The Logic is, apparently, also a phone.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:44pm

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
