While not terrible, the sound is a little muddy this week. I did my best to EQ it a little so it sounds a little better, but we'll have to put up with a tiny bit of murkiness this week.

↳ Song: ""The Invisible Ghost, Part 2"" by "The Blue Beetle"
So many "superhero" shows in the late 30's / early 40's was just "tuff guys" beating up crooks and criminals, and getting revenge on behalf of "the little guy." It's interesting, since so many avenging heros of this era were anti-corporate, anti-fascist, and anti-wealth. But as superheroes have developed over the years, they become more and more fascist and more and more about reinforcing the status quo, rather than helping those truly in need.

"Sober as a Judge."

The Judge that married my partner and I was one of my biggest drinking partners for years. We saw Motorhead together four times, and would "party 'til the break of dawn" all the time back in the day.

She was rarely sober when not at work. So... maybe that saying needs to be updated?

I love how all these shows have the cops after the heros
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:30pm
Austin Rich:

Another trope of early superhero shows: cops would "hate" the heroes, and usually would be as desperate to catch them as they are to catch actual crooks. I think Batman might be the only modern character who has that sort of dynamic at work.

Another trope from this era of adventure / hero serials: announcing the beginning of the next story at the end of the previous one. Some other shows do it, but not as much with the dramas we've been listening to.

↳ Song: ""The Roads Must Roll"" by "X-Minus One"
While there are parts of this story I really enjoy, I think it might be one of the weaker Heinlein stories from his early career. I think he tries to capture some of the same spirit of "The Green Hills of Earth," in this particular story, but falls a little short. (And who could blame him? Green Hills is VERY good.) I've always had a hard time actually visualizing how the "roads" in this story would even work, without just attributing some sort of "science magic" to it.

But I do like the "songs" the workers sing, which are effective...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Song: ""The Roads Must Roll"" by "X-Minus One"
This story is already predicting that, at the time that the story was being aired, that cars and traffic die out. So already, this story is in an interesting sort of "fantasy" version of reality.

Imagine standing on a road going 100mph when it comes to a sudden stop
