@Olivia It's one of my favourite venues in London, And every Saturday afternoon there's an event called Daylight Music, where three artists play a set – different people each week. Entry is by donation and it's one of the truly great things about this city. They've had people like Laetitia Sadier, Piano Magic and Sweet Billy Pilgrim, but also a 1940s orchestra, a handbell ensemble and a show of Bond theme covers. It's marvellous.

I am reading Camp of The Saints. It is what happens when 800,000 dirt poor people from India show up in 100 ships in the south of France. It was written in 1972 or so, so it is not so afraid to not be PC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 6/21/18 1:31pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

It is not afraid to confront:
1. What do the former colonial powers owe the Third World?
2. Should they take them all in and go broke in the process, and thus destroy themselves as a society?

@Joe: It's not de-contextualized. Raspail is a noted and famous racist. His aim was not to "try to get along together on this planet" but to foment hatred. It's basically the French "Turner Diaries".

@WildNeil: The amount of immigrants coming into the U.S. irregardless of methods has been continually dropping for years. Every person who has been deported could still be let in today and the rate is still low. It’s not just that it’s like racist, it’s uniformed and based on paranoid fantasies.

@JakeGould-
How DARE you call me that! I do not engage in name calling, as you do. I am not an attention troll. That is a convenient appellation you heard that you think applies to me. Why don't you go jump in a lake and mind your own darned business? I happen to have views that do not coincide with yours so you decide to tar and feather me with that moniker?
  Thu. 6/21/18 2:21pm JakeGould:

@RTD, all nonfiction has elements of fiction that have leaked in, usually unintentionally. It's unavoidable. Human memory is rubbish. :)

Ah, I see, thanks for the clarification.

@Rev. Turnip Druid
I may be inclined to abandon fiction as well, (but never friction. Friction is our friend)

lol, you're on point today yip yip

I just like reading 60 grit sandpaper. None of that 1500 wet/dry for me.

Ah, good ol' Gen Ken.

I love this stuff but it drives my teens nuts. I think it will alter their brains and make them smarter and liberal
  Thu. 6/21/18 2:46pm melinda:

I'm not reading anything right now.
  Thu. 6/21/18 2:46pm JakeGould:

Who reads that 1500 wet/dry? Paris Review subscribers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 6/21/18 2:46pm Webhamster Henry:

I'm also an old Paul Lansky fan - I used his NeXT software to make some music.

@Webhamster Henry: that sounds awesome. Lansky's stuff is great!

I remember being invited to visit Generator (Gen Ken's place) once. I bought a Bulgarian folk music record, but I thought it would be more like Le Mystery des Bulgares instead of what I got! It had songs like "Luka got a new leather belt", etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 6/21/18 2:49pm olivia:

word Webhamster Henry! i used to listen to his album alphabet book (i think that's the name??) a lot!! i used to DJ at wprb, and since he's a professor at princeton, he was HEAVY in the stacks

Well, this will make the segue into Fabio's show seamless. Thanks Olivia, so dig you toons!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Thu. 6/21/18 2:53pm northguineahills:

Wow, Henry!

lol, Wild Neil!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 6/21/18 2:54pm Lixiviated Life:

@JakeGould That's a little bit too much friction, even for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 6/21/18 2:54pm Webhamster Henry:

@Wild Neil I never got to the original East Village Generator, but I went to the one in Chelsea. I was at the last show - I really wanted to adopt his "Generator" (which was some kind of automobile or tube testing device) but how to get it in my apartment was a bit of a quandry.
@Olivia I used to listen to Homebrew a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 6/21/18 2:57pm chris:

thanks, olivia! great stuff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Thu. 6/21/18 2:58pm chris:

  Thu. 6/21/18 2:58pm still b/p:

Woke at 3:30 AM the other night — a spring/summer affliction, and started looking at selections from Henry Beston. Started with Outermost House pieces (read whole thing 20 years ago) and might continue with his writings in/on Maine.

My favorite haunting Nick Drake song.
Not sure who's spinning records now, but thanks.

Gently swinging on the porch in the country listening to Fabio’s Nick Drake selections is now my idea of the perfect sunny summer Solstice afternoon.
