Desinence Thursday, November 8th, 2001, 11pm - 2am

Desinence is a band that emerges from Vernon, NJ. They have their own style of heavy music that has been progressing ever since they started playing together two years ago. In spring of this year, they underwent major reforms, acquiring their current singer, Brian. He added a new melodic edge to Desinence, yet still fueled their raw roots. Also in Desinence are Jerry (bass), Dan (lead guitar), Mike (rhythm guitar), and Rich (drums). Brian recently graduated from Rutgers University as a percussionist with a degree in Classical Performance. For more on Desinence, visit www.desinenceband.com. This piece is far outside his body of commercial work and may be one of the sole recordings of a Rodd Ketih original - but, its purpose and structure are entangled with mystery. Tune in to hear this work as he and Bethany explore another link between Rodd's legacy and WFMU. Check the 1996 LCD article for the full history.
Faun Fables Monday, October 29th, 2001, 3pm - 6pm
on
Irene Trudel's show
WFMU's Brian Turner said it best in "Blast
of Hot Air": "Dawn's gorgeous otherworldly folk is both steeped in tradition and complete experimentation and inventiveness- something fans of Brigitte Fontaine would definitely appreciate ...there's a dark element that reminds me of the pagan-y stuff in the film "The Wicker Man," not to mention the sinister cooing in Krzysztof Komeda's "Rosemary's Baby" soundtrack ...spacious yet claustrophobic elements."

The Walkmen Monday, October 22nd, 2001, Midnight - 3am
on
Mosurock with Doug M.
Hailing from New York City, the Walkmen play a rickety, trebly, seductive
style of rock, fueled by the teenage garage grind of early Stones and Van
Morrison, the melancholy shimmy of Southern Gothic tributes like the
Rock*a*Teens, and the endless stream of worthwhile musical ideas that sprung
forth from the first days of U2 or the Pixies. They feature ex-members of
Jonathan Fire*Eater and the Recoys and this is their first visit to WFMU's
studios. Check out their debut four-song EP on the Star Time label.

Scratch My Nose Thursday, October 18th, 2001, 3pm - 6pm
on
Intelligent Design with Kenny G
It's the triumphant return to the airwaves of Scratch My Nose, an
Australian duo whose Listener Hour New Years Day 2000 caused folks to,
well, go back to bed and hide. Ritalin-inspired,
constantly chattering and clinically, insane, SMN present an hour of
rants, Billy Idol worship, and puerile little songs about WFMU itself.

Misfits Thursday, October 4th, 2001, 11pm - 2am
on
Pat Duncan's show
Who else could more appropriately begin the month of Halloween for us than the Misfits? This legendary band is celebrating 25 years together in 2002..."The first leg of the 25th Anniversary tour was truly a historic event. The Misfits with special guests Marky Ramone and Robo & Dez from Black Flag joined forces to celebrate 25 years of Misfits and 25 years of punk rock in general. The tour has a very classic feel due to all of those involved working together. Nothing less than an all star line-up of punk rock. The L.A. show featured a surprise appearance by Keith Morris (founding member and former lead vocalist for both Black Flag and the Circle Jerks). Keith showed up unexpectedly and after reminiscing with Jerry, Robo and Dez in the Winnebago he joined the guys on stage for a great rendition of the Black Flag classic "Nervous Breakdown". The Misfits will be joining The Pat Duncan show with guests. Find out more about what these guys are up to at www.misfits.com
