spodi, I can hear that!

So, question for Frank or other knowledgeable East River-adjacent locals: we finally got a shelf that let us take all the components out and set up. With great hope, I connected everything ... and found the tuner/receiver won't turn on. Any idea of a place to get it fixed locally? It's probably 25 years old? Sony. Seems a shame to dump it. Handy, I myself is looking for a place to repair old equipment. I have two receivers that could use work and their just collecting dust in my basement because I don't know where to take them. Supposedly there's a guy on Clarkson Ave who is good and affordable, but he's a one man operation and it's more of a side gig than his profession, so it takes him ages to get the work done.

Quick SB narrative: The greatest quarterback of all time vs. the greatest quarterback playing the game right now. The last era of the NFL vs. the future. And two coaches that are more concerned with putting their players in a place to succeed than with their own reputations. It's really one of the better SBs in years.

The game is the Kansas City Chiefs versus the Tampa Bay buccaneers. The Chiefs should win because, among other things, they have hands-down the most talented and interesting quarterback of all time; Patrick Mahomes. However, there is an interesting narrative at play which is that universally reviled QBTom Brady, in his first season away from the universally reviled patriots, took a generally very shabby team all the way to the big game. So the usual over dog is now the underdog.

The game will likely be close, as has been the pattern in recent years (after decades of bad/blowout SB games). Tampa Bay features GOAT QB Tom "MAGA" Brady, his old partner Rob Gronkowski and some very good receivers and a swarming defense versus the KC Chiefs and the greatest QB in the game today, Patrick Mahomes, who is spectacularly good and armed with two excellent receivers (Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce) and a number of less known playmakers, with a defense that is less impressive than Tampa's but which seems to play just well enough to keep opposing teams from outscoring the high-flying Chiefs. Final score KC 38 - Tampa Bay 35.

During grade school, we were doing that thing where you take turns reading sections of a text, and we came to the word melancholy. The girl who got stuck having to read 'melancholy' was a timid type whom I knew from Hebrew School -- and she pronounced it with the Hebraic "ch" sound and a long "O." I had to share that. Thanks, all.

Ennui was invented in nineteenth-century French novels, once there was enough of a middle class to support novels and to feel boredom. Melancholy was diagnosed by Paracelsus and is, basically, depression.
