It's kinda amazing how rapidly the fidelity of recordings changes from the teens to the '20s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am

MHLee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am
Jan Turkenburg:

The music in this archive comes from multiple sources, so sometimes the older recordings can sound better than the newer ones.

It's sunny here in East Hollywood. I was surprised by the wind and rain yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am

Hopey, right? I was working @Griffith Park when that 2 hour drizzle blasted through.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am
MHLee:

That transition was smooth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am
Jan Turkenburg:

:-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am
Jan Turkenburg:

maybe because the tracks had a few musicians in common, apart from the key...
  Swag For Life Member 10:44am
WR:

Bobby Lee (6) on discogs, no info there except a few recordings, the recording you played is on anthology
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am

Jan Turkenburg:

Hi again MB!
  11:03am
Martinibomb:

@zib yuuup just obsessed with pinball machines I'll be back on air here in April I think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am
MHLee:

There must've been a real demand for whistling records... there are so many of these recordings
Avatar 11:04am
zivilars:

@MB: physical pinball machines or online? are you a collector??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am
Jan Turkenburg:

and I already announced that you will be here as co-host next week!
  11:05am
Martinibomb:

@Ziv I guess I am now! Officially up to 4 machines an Old Chicago, Eight Ball, Agents 777 and an Atari Wide Body Middle Earth.
Avatar 11:07am
zivilars:

@MB: That sounds great! And probably also expensive ... Hope you have enough room to store them all and maybe quite a few more in the future!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am
Jan Turkenburg:

Die Alicantos, another one I couldn't find anything about online
  11:07am
Martinibomb:

The Atari one I got from this girl whos dad used to work for them in the 70s. So it's the pre-production game they made before they went into production.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am
Jan Turkenburg:

Zivilars? maybe on German sites?
Avatar 11:07am
zivilars:

Only song dedicated to Andrea I know
Avatar 11:08am
zivilars:

Never heard of the Alicantos before, too – if even you haven't, chances are always good that I don't have any clue at all :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am
MHLee:

I didn't expect it to be German at first then started trying to figure out what they were saying and "oh it's in German!"
  11:10am
Martinibomb:

@Ziv expense has not been too bad. I've spent almost 3K total on 4 machines. So that's like $850 a machine not a bad deal! I sold a bunch of music gear I wanted to get rid of anyway and basically converted it to pinball machines. Lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am
MHLee:

Might be the only release of Alicantos other than the flip side
  11:12am
Martinibomb:

Pinball has really helped my mood during the pandemic. Just stuck in the house all the time where I am.
Avatar 11:13am
zivilars:

@Jan: Where did you stumble upon the Alicatons record? @MB: Sounds reasonable! Hope they are in good condition (or maybe you even found a hobby in repairing them). Maybe you can let us see some photos of them in a future show in the playlist!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am
chresti:

Grannykins!
  11:14am
Martinibomb:

@Ziv yes! That's the other thing. I love electronics! So I enjoy working on these machines.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am
Jan Turkenburg:

@ zivilars. I don't own any of these records (a few Dutch ones excepted) I downloaded from Cornelius who spent a great part of his life collecting and tranferring audio antiquities as well as searching for them onlline in other archives.
Avatar 11:16am
zivilars:

@MB: It only has very slightly to do with pinball machines, but do you know this Atari table? If it weren't for the expensive and difficult shipping to Germany, I would have considered to maybe save money for one: www.kickstarter.com...
Avatar 11:16am
Ursula1000:

Hey Jan! Hey Sheena-ites!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am
MHLee:

It's great that these are digitalized I own a couple of records that a digital version just doesn't exist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Ursula!
Avatar 11:17am
zivilars:

@Jan: I see – Cornelius seems to have an impressive collection indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am
Jan Turkenburg:

If he's still alive.... haven't ben able to get in touch with him for a long time and he never shared his adress with me. His family name must be in the credits in a video I hop I have on CDr somewhere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am
MHLee:

I don't think any of these artists ever would have thought that they'd be played 100 years later in a global listening party
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am
Jan Turkenburg:

amazing idea, not?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am
Jan Turkenburg:

This was one example of relatively recent recording sounding not so good in comparison to older ones
  Swag For Life Member 11:39am
WR:

sweet Grandma Turkenburg story.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am
MHLee:

When I was a child about 20 years ago I was given my father's radio from the 1970s... it only had one working channel I could receive... an oldies channel... and they excluded do-wop and rock'n'roll... so it was all this benign 50's and 40's pop... Perry Como and the like
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am
Jan Turkenburg:

MHL and WR , memories to cherish!
  11:42am
Listener Robert:

The French dialog is just a little too fast for me to get the jokes.
  11:44am
Listener Robert:

The gist of it is that to make good bouillabaisse in his house "requires" a lot of distractions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am
MHLee:

Doo-wop in turn reminds me of classic car shows
Avatar 11:52am
Ursula1000:

ooh this is nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am
Jan Turkenburg:

I thought you would like this one. playing 50s music to make the transition to your show smoother ;-)
  Swag For Life Member 11:57am
WR:

thank you Jan!
