Hiya Butterman!

Brains and eggs are something of a delicacy at the Oxford Bar in Missoula, MT. When someone orders them, usually at 3 AM, the bartender shouts, "He needs 'em!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, ultradamno, Richard S, WHH, The Butterman, khd!

Hey Handy!

@UD, you mean the Vocal Fry List? You can find it here: blogfiles.wfmu.org...

This is the catchiest government surveillance song I've ever heard

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, everyone. That's quite a fry-tening playlist image up there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm ultradamno:

Didn't even have to meet a sewing machine on a dissecting table to see it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm ultradamno:

...does that make me an umbrella?
Avatar 7:09pm Dan Bodah:

@UD, it helps. @KFHP, he looks surprised to me. @moontana, I especially liked Sanders on the Manson family.
Avatar 7:09pm Dan Bodah:

@Glistener MW, I feel like that's a challenge....

Ultradamno, it just makes you a Surrealist.

I just read Sander's history of his time in New York, FUG YOU (2011). It is a 400 page book that only goes to 1970. He has also written a biography of Sharon Tate (2015)!
  7:20pm DJ Purple Haze:

Hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm annie:

penya, so pronounced... have you seen that movie? ghengis blues?? so good
  7:21pm Glistener MW:

Genghis Blues! What a masterpiece of a doc and soundtrack. I haven’t seen it in years — I wonder if it’s available in HD somewhere?
Avatar 7:21pm Dan Bodah:

@annie, yes -- great movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm annie:

i've been looking for an OST cd, too.. such a great album!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hey there, DJ Purple Haze. Any interesting projects in the works?
Avatar 7:23pm khd:

Genghis Blues - must see - that and the In the Heart of Tuva comp got me into Tuvan throat-singing and I'm sure I got into them from FMU!
Avatar 7:23pm Dan Bodah:

Unfortunately, they didn't have much of a budget so even the original quality is probably not that great. I'm glad they did it though, opened up a whole world. You can get the CD still -- at Bandcamp! genghisblues.bandcamp.com...
  7:23pm DJ Purple Haze:

@ken not much atm
Avatar 7:24pm khd:

I'm pretty sure I won "in the heart of tuva" as a marathon bonus :D
Avatar 7:25pm Dan Bodah:

@khd, that one was one of my starter khoomei albums too -- I love those ellipsis arts CDs in the little book, so good.
Avatar 7:25pm slugluv1313:

good evening, Dan and Skeletons and Fryers!
happy to be here and listening with y'all :)
Avatar 7:25pm khd:

yeh, that booklet is so nice (hardcover!), it's a keeper
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Glistener MW:

Thanks, Dan - buying it on Bandcamp now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Richard S:

A massage for the ears!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Glistener MW:

and it seems that a slightly-remastered "20th anniversary" version of the film is rentable on www.genghisblues.com for $2.99

Nice twangy upbeat song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm Mr. Pumpy:

@Handy...if you're here, this one is for J!
Avatar 7:30pm khd:

i just re-watched Fishing w/John a week or so ago - the Waits episode is so good
Avatar 7:30pm Dan Bodah:

There's a moment in this song where Waits' Cookie Monster voice twists into a thinner overtone whine more like The Wolf's.
Avatar 7:30pm mace:

evenin' yall
  7:30pm Melissa:

Thank you for playing Tom Waits. Heard all too infrequently on FMU!!!
Avatar 7:31pm slugluv1313:

yes, Gengis Blues is amazing!
somehow lucked out and saw the film -- with live music (although sadly, Paul Pena was not well enough to be travel and be there too) -- at Alliance Française, iirc -- 1999? 2000?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm ultradamno:

It is nice when they give a break to a struggling new artist. I think we'll be hearing more from this Weights guy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm annie:

if you don't know the story behind genchis blues, it's a must-watch
Avatar 7:32pm Dan Bodah:

@slugluv, sounds amazing! @mace, melissa, welcome!
  7:33pm Melissa:

Time for some Holy Modal Rounders!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm annie:

paul pena walked away with such honour.... yes melissa!!
Avatar 7:33pm Dan Bodah:

@khd, I think the most downright honest expression I've ever heard from Waits is his whining about having to go fishing with John so early.
Avatar 7:34pm slugluv1313:

@Dan -- it was! one of the best shows ever, pretty sure that is where i picked up the soundtrack too
Avatar 7:35pm khd:

@dan i could listen to 24 hours of Waits and Lurie walking down a beach talking about driftwood art or whatever
  7:36pm The Butterman:

In Ghengis Blues, Kongar and Paul get all fucked up on fermented goat milk. So sweet and funny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm Glistener MW:

ha! I was just thinking about Fishing With John earlier today. I'm glad Waits survived his episode. R.I.P., Willem Dafoe. :<
Avatar 7:38pm khd:

i love the Tom Waits/Corrupted collab
Avatar 7:39pm khd:

if you haven't make sure you search out th directory commentary for Fishing with John - it's great
Avatar 7:40pm khd:

if it aint on youtube i guess i can upload that crap
Avatar 7:40pm khd:

'director commentary'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm Mr. Pumpy:

Painting With John is a winner as well. It is a different beast and therefore reveals a different beauty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm annie:

nusrat fati ali khan.. i would play his music in the store where i worked. the faces of the shoppers walking in.. priceless
Avatar 7:47pm Dan Bodah:

Yeah, Nusrat & Party were dead serious about their ecstatic trance singing -- not conducive to commerce!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm annie:

one of my walk-ins started singing along!! she knew the prayer!!
Avatar 7:51pm Dan Bodah:

Nice feature in the Wire on Ainu music -- www.thewire.co.uk...
Avatar 7:51pm khd:

@annie - synchronicity!
Avatar 7:52pm Dan Bodah:

@annie, was that the Lithuanian music or the Ainu?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm Glistener MW:

!!! Annie, that's amazing. <3
Avatar 7:53pm Dan Bodah:

That's so great - love those moments in radio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm annie:

@ khd:i know. it was fabulous... @dan, it was a retelling of a memory of some alikhan music
Avatar 7:54pm Tom Miller:

When we visited the Ainu Museum in Shiraoi, Hokkaido my friend brought a cassette of early 20th-century Ainu wax-cylinder recordings from the museum archives as a gift. Our hosts put it on in the car but it had gotten mixed up with a Marilyn Manson tape. The elder Ainu was like what the heck is this?! but his son was like "Hey, our ancestors rocked!"
Avatar 7:55pm Dan Bodah:

@annie -- ah! I see! That is really cool. I wish I could understand the poetry in his music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm annie:

and one of the best things that came from all that is that everyone knows ALL the music, we just don't realize it..
Avatar 7:55pm Dan Bodah:

@Tom, lololol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm annie:

yes, dan... so deep..
Avatar 7:56pm Dan Bodah:

And then the son went out and started a band!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm annie:

i'm glad i tuned in tonight..many thanks dan
Avatar 7:57pm Tom Miller:
