There's a upside and a downside to having a birthday, the downside is that your another year older, The upside is that it's a whole year before you dread the coming of the next one.
  9:39am
andy fuchs:

I'm betting that's been done already. I'll look around for you. I'm betting Roland or Quilter or someone did it already. I'm more a tube guitar amp guy. While there may be bass amps in the company future, I'm doubting major effects in them.

Thanks andy. Yeah bass and built in effects don't seem to go together too often. I wanted something I could run bass or guitar thorough.

I guess it's just in most music bass is still a background thing. I do recall though some of those new wave bassists, circa '79 -'85, using a lot of "chorus" or "flange."

OK folk, here's a question. Do you think bands from the 60s that had a lot of hits and are known as "singles bands" are less respected than bands that are known for their albums?
Avatar 9:50am
Bob Brainen:

Thanks JohnEBGood!
Gina, that neglect is easy to remedy!
Yeah wm, I love this album!
Avatar 9:51am
TDK60:

I dig The Church. Still together, I think.
  9:52am
Jeff:

Not less respected by me! Tommy James & the Shondells (or Tommy James + whoever was on the session) being a prime example. Rascals too!
Avatar 9:53am
Bob Brainen:

I was in a Facebook back and forth yesterday, and someone said that bands like the Dead, Doors & Byrds were respected now, while bands like the Lovin' Spoonful and CCR, were not. Assuming you agree, is it because we have a prejudice against bands known more for singles than albums?
Avatar 9:53am
TDK60:

Bob, maybe the Young Rascals were both? Lots of singles and good albums too
Avatar 9:53am
Joe M:

Yeah, I think bands that are pegged as "singles" bands sometimes get overlooked for their albums. The Lovin Spoonful come to mind.
Avatar 9:53am
Bob Brainen:

I think The Church are still at it, yeah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am
steveo:

Probably, Bob. my first thought is to think of the Beatles, who I think started out as a singles band and then "matured" into an album band. I guess it shows a stylistic coherence? Interesting question, I'm curious to hear what others have to say.
Avatar 9:56am
Bob Brainen:

It's hard to gauge all this! I think Tommy James is thought of as lightweight in comparison to others.
Rascals, is a good one. Again, not sure how to judge current "ratings" of these bands.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:57am
wmfromdumont:

I think at an earlier point in time that question was more relevant. My sense is younger people don't have those preconceptions about that time period. It's refreshing.
Avatar 9:58am
Bob Brainen:

In San Fran bands, I think Beau Brummels and Sopwith Camel are under-rated, under-valued. Both had hits and put out great albums but are thought of as "singles bands."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am
JohnEBGood:

Yes, I love Paul Revere, The Association, and Spanky and Our Gang
Avatar 9:59am

Steveo makes a good point, I don't think it's quite that black and white. Most bands or even solo artist all started out as singles, until the concept of 8,10, or 22 minute songs started to appear along with a crap load of single track's jammed on a single LP or double LP gatefold album. And so inspired a lot of artist to one degree or another started to attempt making a well known great album of their own, which a lot had singles hits, so you see it's really a gray area because it's just a mix.
