Gina Bacon - Safe travels! I just got back (last night!) from 20 days on the road, solo, drove from Chicago out to the West Coast and back, via AZ and NM, I listened to WFMU the whole way - it was great company! And better than local radio. Also, Asheville is really nice.
  9:10am
(Mr) Bill:

Although "They may be stupid but they sure are fun" was no more OK in 1970 than in Me-Too times...even if Rundgren meant it ironically to criticize anti-second wave feminism, which I doubt. (Had to say it or I wouldn't be able to sleep for weeks.)

I agree with Yeti, that line was as inaccurate in 1970 as it is now. Lazy writing and a touch of misogyny methinks.

It's always worthwhile to point out that the dude speaking in the Rundgren song is presented as a clown...a guy with no understanding of women, and no game. "And when we're through with you, We'll get me one too."

YETI BOB:

Coygal - I think you mean Mr Bill? I didn't say anything about the song.

But since you brought it up -- there's an alternate way of reading that line, if you look at the line before it, "they" could refer to the things that make someone seem special, not "women". That's what Todd claims he meant. And, gramatically speaking, it does make sense - the antecedent of "they" is "the things", not "women".
