And Feldpausch, that's not true, even in just the English speaking world. If you say "football" in Australia, for example, you'll be understood as probably referring to Australian football, not soccer. In fact in MOST countries where English is primarily used, some other type of football is more popular than soccer. Even in England, "football" didn't come to be understood as "soccer" until over the past 50 years.
