Hi Paul!

So glad I discovered your show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10am
Jan Turkenburg:

You just made me smile! Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12am
Jan Turkenburg:

Just visited your website. Wow. I will check out the music after the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14am
Jan Turkenburg:

Do I get this right? Are you the designer of Spongebob????
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15am
yerfriendpaul:

So good to hear Charlie Parker. Was just walking through Tompkins Square Park last night, very close to where Charlie Parker lived. The park host’s an annual Charlie Parker concert around the time of his birthday in August. I know this information because I share his same birthday. I went one year and Jackie McClean was playing. Really great

Thank you! I used to work at Nickelodeon and yes, SpongeBob was a big part of my world. I’m a designer and helped to make the toys. Now I work with Elmo, Cookie Monster and the gang at Sesame Street. I love it there

Wow :-)

It’s been years since I’ve played music but I have a love for my time in the band so I dedicated a space for it on my website. I played with my brother, sister-in-law and our close friend from college. We played for about 5 or 6 years. We played on Irene Trudel’s show in the 90s. We backed up Dave Spalding (from the band Pell Mell). We got a chance to play a few of our tunes as well. Unfortunately it was before the shows were archived. I have a cassette tape of it though. We played a second time but I lost the tape, which pains me! I usually keep everything for my archives but the cassette disappeared.

Good morning

Jan Turkenburg:

Hi MHLee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27am
MHLee:

It's a rare day when I'm up this early AND not on air.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27am
Jan Turkenburg:

Paul, I'm familiar with that pain...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32am
MHLee:

@paul I probably was the target demographic when you were designing your toys. I remember Spongebob season 1... the only way I know this is I remember where I was when two seasons 2 episodes premiered. I'm about 3 years older than the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34am
MHLee:

I love 1930s Bing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34am
yerfriendpaul:

Hi MHLee! That’s so cool that you grew up with the show! I had a lot of fun working on SpongeBob product. Those first few seasons still hold up so well in my eyes and mind. Genuinely funny and original.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40am
yerfriendpaul:

One of my favorite moments while at Nickelodeon... I was watching NBC’s Today Show around the Christmas holidays and Gene Shalit (a film critic who would guest on the show) was reviewing his top 20 wall calendars for the new year. The SpongeBob calendar I designed was featured on his list which was a nice little thrill for me, ha ha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40am

cool!

Another 1940s contender for ROCk'n'Roll record is Lewis Jordan's Saturday night Fish Fry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am
Jan Turkenburg:

Ah thanks, I will look that up, MHLee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50am
yerfriendpaul:

MHLee - love Louis Jordan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50am
yerfriendpaul:

Is that Slam Stewart on bass? Love his playing/singing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51am
Jan Turkenburg:

MHLee, yes I have that one in the archive :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53am
MHLee:

@paul first heard of him on this wonderful CD accompanied children's book on a road trip when i was ten or so www.frugalfrigate.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53am
Jan Turkenburg:

yerfriendpaul, I don't know. I happen to have gotten this huge digital archive with little background knowledge to start with. I'm learning as we go along myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55am
yerfriendpaul:

He’s famous for using the bow on bass and singing along in sync with his solos. It’s a great sound - I thought I heard him there at the tail end of the song. I think it was him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56am
Jan Turkenburg:

Ah, that sound is his!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58am
yerfriendpaul:

MHLee - it’s impossible not to feel happy when listening to Louis Jordan. Such humor, energy and the music is so good. Fats Waller has the same gift. Instant spirit lifter
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59am
MHLee:

I listen to this Yma Sumac album all the time. This is on the Inca Taqui record I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00am
MHLee:

@paul Agreed!

Thank you Jan! I’m hopping over to Double Dip. Great show! Have a good day! Take care MHLee!

archive listen. Looks like had a couple of active commentors on Saturday. Will comment more as I listen. Starting with live Bird!
  Swag For Life Member 9:32am
WR:

Rockin' Ghost, new to me. Archie Bleyer was a NYC born arranger and novelty song writer who founded Cadence records. writing credit includes Steve Allen, who I assume is the well-known comedian, tv host and occasional piano player.

WR:

Bill Mathews & the Ballardiers are fun, thought it might be Louie Prima or his sax player, Sam Butera. Quick search and find nothing about Matthews or Sticks Evan.

Mid through listening and was realizing you chose several ghost-in-the-title selections wandered why the focus on ghosts now, not on Halloween. Fun show. Thank you!
