Jan Turkenburg:

sorry to hear that, MHLee, hope it'll be fixed soon indeed.

WR:

Doris Day and Barbecue Bob recorded together? how nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi WR! Did I just say that? 🤦‍♀️
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am
chresti:

I liked Doris Day in Calamity Jane when I was a tot, that character was one of my first role models.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am
WR:

Not exactly, since you were in a hurry to finish you said something like "after that we heard Doris Day and Barbecue Bob and finished with Xavier Cugat doing..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am
MHLee:

I'm not 100% sure that image is Bob. I've meant to check it before. As far as I know, the only image of bob is the one in BBQ getup. Searching the image it comes up as the cover to a smithsonian folkways album called Atlanta Blues which featured him... hmm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am

Mostly it was me grasping for a silly comment.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am
David (in London):

Ah, Mx Bee. Hello to you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am
WR:

MHLee, the image Jan used seems to be generally accepted as being Robert Hicks, i.e. Barbecue Bob.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am
Jan Turkenburg:

it seemed too me when i chose it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am
David (in London):

Hey WR.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am
MHLee:

@WR yeah... took quite a bit of searching but eventually i found a source that I trust on it so I think it's right... blues muscians seem to always get confused on the net.

David (in London), drinking my tea from a lovely bone china cup today
hey there, WR, MHLee, and any others lurking about

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am
Feldpausch:

Good morning, Jan! Hi everybody
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am
MHLee:

I think one could definitely make a mix of songs about bananas
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am
Jan Turkenburg:

Adam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am
WR:

Hello David (iL), when i wrote my silly comment I considered ending it with "I'll get my coat" but wasn't sure if that was the proper phrase and also decided I didn't want to further complicate my comment like this one which is being to ramble far far too much. I thought, "I wish I knew how David (in London) would write it. "
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

this Flower of the Month series might JUST be old enough for this show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am
MHLee:

Everyone of Yma's songs <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

WR: silliness, and attempts thereof, are the bread and butter of these chat boards (the nerdy comments about music theory and history are the nuts and bolts)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am
MHLee:

meant to put a space there... anyway I have go give an exam. Thanks Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am
David (in London):

WR, you were spot on, so a bonus point to you. I love 'I'll get my coat', plus it reminds me of a sadly departed and much missed friend of mine who used to use it to perfection. Next time you feel its calling, do it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am

And in The Singing Detective, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am
spodiodi:

i had a great aunt who was from Oklahoma who called us all Honey Child (to Aunt Joe Anne). digging this, Jan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am
spodiodi:

is that a film, David?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am
chresti:

That could be a project, spodi, compile all the music you've heard/identified playing video games.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am
David (in London):

Oh, sorry Spod. The Singing Detective was a three-part TV series from 1986 by a guy called Dennis Potter, who was notable for raw, strange, out-there writing. The 'British David Lynch' is a lazy comparison, but not altogether wide of the mark. (Lynch and Potter were even considering working together once).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am
spodiodi:

i've been thinking about putting a show together along those lines, chresti. would be fun
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, I have bothe DVD and the CD-box. I still have to add the CD tracks to the archive, but most of them are already in by the looks of it.

remarkable yodelling inserted into the pop music of the day in 1931.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am
Jan Turkenburg:

Yodelling should be inserted in pop music more often!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am
WR:

spodiodi, two video game tunes may appear to be a small quest, two items, suggested by seemingly reliable source. Little do you what lays before you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am
spodiodi:

WR, que?
  11:48am
MHLee:

@spodiodi apparently it was casino night not green hill zone... interestingly close to some standards
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am

Man, I loved that Cabaret Dance Orchestra tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am

You thanked MHLee for the small quest. Now see where it will lead you. See, MHLee is already moving the goal. (sorry, I am chattering silly on in here because my supervisor isnt around to say, it your work done yet?)
