My introduction to Spirit was in junior high. A friend had the first album. He had a blond high-fi on spindly legs he had appropriated from the living room in bedroom closet. We would close the door, turn on the black light and trip out.

Bob, I grew up in the Athenia section off of Colfax Ave near Clifton High. I know Colonial Village and Piaget Ave well. There used to be a great bagel place on Piaget as well as a great Kosher butcher. Loved Allwood! I bought my first singles at Gaslight Records!

TDK60, Styertowne is a shopping center just off of Route 3. It was spitting distance from Nutley. Hoffman LaRoche was just down the road. Styertowne had everything, plus the Rizzuto-Berra Bowling Alley off the back parking lot!

There is a story about Arthur Lee and Jay Donnellen getting into a fist fight before a gig in Oakland that precipitated him getting the boot from Love. Jay was big guy, I saw him with Arthur at UCLA much later. I guess the fight was a draw.
