	1:11pm coelacanth∅: i've wondered about when a composer plays "as guest" on one of his (in this case) own songs how that affects the treatment that the "host" (Rollins in this case) artist may have in mind for a song. (i know it often is not that arrangement, and the same recording might also be on a Monk album or even a Blakey album...but it does happen)

	1:25pm adamdoesit: coel, that's way above my pay grade about guest and host; but right at the beginning of that "Misterioso," it sounded like Monk shifted from one tempo to another… I wondered if there was some misalignment at the outset, and if the end of the track was a way of playing with/discussing it.

	1:55pm Stork: I heard something about this album (Thelonious Monk With John Coltrane) packaging - like there were souviner stamps inside - that people then started using to post letters. The label was issued an injunction to recall the records so packaged, and not to do that ever again. I hope it's true.

	3:09pm adamdoesit: On Planet Monk, curveballs fly like fastballs, and straight shooters are the ones who go over the edge.
	3:10pm Stork: Underground was a great great late-in-his career album when most people thought he was washed up.
	3:11pm adamdoesit: There, children's feet actively seek out cracks between squares of pavement, which are not, anyhow, square, but composed of rectangles dark and light, small and large.
	3:15pm adamdoesit: Jon Hendricks wrote some great lyrics for this tune. Probably the only guy who could.
	3:17pm Stork: Apparently, Monk didn't always give names to his compositions, and wasn't always ready with ideas as to what to call them. Hence song titles like "Bye-Ya" - named for a Latino engineer who kept yelling Vaya" - let's go; "Let's Call This" is a title that needs no explanation - cuz there ain't none.
	3:18pm yerfriendpaul: I’m sure you’ve all seen them but if you haven’t , search online for Monk’s notes to his band. They’re so great and I think many of them reach beyond just music.
	3:18pm adamdoesit: On that planet, we'd celebrate Monk Day every April, always in Paris. Climate change would be a matter of too hot a tempo. Better cut me off, barkeep.

	3:17pm Stork: Apparently, Monk didn't always give names to his compositions, and wasn't always ready with ideas as to what to call them. Hence song titles like "Bye-Ya" - named for a Latino engineer who kept yelling Vaya" - let's go; "Let's Call This" is a title that needs no explanation - cuz there ain't none.
