Hello fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
MHLee:

Are Hotel bands still a thing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
fred:

There were a bunch of recordings of "Western" music made in Japan before they got censored in the lead-up to WWII. Those tunes may not have made the cut though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
Jan Turkenburg:

@MHLee, I've been in a two-piece Hotel Duo in Bütgenbach, Belgium in the late 80s, sometimes augmented to 5 piece max. I think there are hotel bands, or pianists still, but it's a dying breed I assume
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Interesting, fred, I might dig into that one day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
MHLee:

"Instrumental versions appeared in almost every one of the first five episodes of the HBO series Boardwalk Empire. A version with lyrics was featured in the show on October 24, 2010." oh that might be why I know that song

Japanese Moon seems to be a cash in song to the huge hit Japanese Sandman. The composer listed on some Moon recordings is apparently a pseudonym:
