Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
Sam Segal:

Good evening, King Coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm

'you calling me Old?!
Avatar 10:08pm
northguineahills:

my zorse zoomed from the zoom meeting, so, I guess that still qualifies me for a space in this sound house.....
Avatar 10:08pm
northguineahills:

no coel, but you're a merry old sole....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm

Avatar 10:10pm

Unfortunately, king bear is now santana auto repair...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm
coelacanth∅:

you don't like Santana?
Avatar 10:12pm
northguineahills:

not as much as finding whom is this king bear fella...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
coelacanth∅:

hahaha! i'll surely tell you Sam!
...but - no Shit, so far!
Avatar 10:15pm
northguineahills:

i'm here just b/c i'm a glutton for aural punishment...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
Sam Segal:

Coel, to paraphrase a guy I overheard on the train the other day, you're not old, you're classic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Sam Segal:

Ah, a musical masochist, NGH! I know your kind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
coelacanth∅:

i'll take it.
better than "living fossil" or "prehistoric"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
Sam Segal:

To further quote the guy from the train, he then went on to say, "Nah, but I am old though."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
Sam Segal:

@NGH, glad to know the auto repair tradition remains intact in that location.
Avatar 10:19pm
northguineahills:

@coel: or an evolutionary dead end whose mere presence might awaken the Elder Things of the Deep, or....(maybe I should stop).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm
coelacanth∅:

("dead end" = "pinnacle"!)
Avatar 10:27pm
northguineahills:

I'll buy that.... (now, how to work that in other contexts....)
Avatar 10:36pm
still b/p:

Speaking of dead ends, the worms, as I understand it, crawl in. The accepted precedent is that the worms then, in their processsing cycle, crawl out. Some worms, concurrent with the access and egress of the others, now -- in a break from long tradition -- play pinnacle in your snout.
Avatar 10:40pm
northguineahills:

it's a myth that evolution is unidirectional, or that organisms will evolve more complexities...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
Sam Segal:

@SBP: Pinnacle or pinochle?
Avatar 10:43pm
northguineahills:

1.6"/40mm of rain since 9:30. Somehow kept the interwebbings on....
Avatar 10:43pm
northguineahills:

nice cover....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
Sam Segal:

So, NGH, you've certainly seen the rain!
Avatar 10:44pm
northguineahills:

too bad pinochet was such an evil bastage, oh, the alliteration oppotunities!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
doctorjazz:

Hi folks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm
coelacanth∅:

ngh ya ever read galapagos , by Vonnegut?
...speaking of just that @10.40
probably my favorite Vonnegut story
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm
Sam Segal:

Welcome, Doctor J!
Avatar 10:48pm
northguineahills:

I've read nearly everything by Vonnegut, but I have yet to hit that one...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
coelacanth∅:

it's not *about* evolution, but it's told from the viewpoint of a human a million (?) years from now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm
coelacanth∅:

('don't want to reveal more than that)
Avatar 10:52pm
northguineahills:

nah, if you're some wise-cracking kids from Akron, it's about devolution...
Avatar 10:59pm
northguineahills:

@sam: I did not farsi this selection....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01pm
Sam Segal:

Hahaha I(should have)ran it by you first, NGH!
  11:11pm
Dean:

Just emailed you, docjazz, about the new gear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
coelacanth∅:

ngh i know to what you refer but in the case of "galapagos" no, it's evolution. it's a "simplifying", yes, but it's an adaptation, and a beautifully useful one.
...just as the "snake" had legs and lost them - to become what may be considered the pinnacle of predatory reptiles, if not of all reptiles... perfect in it's simplicity.
  11:15pm
Dean:

Re: evolution and related issues, everybody needs to hear Tobias Picker's The Encantadas, text from H. Melville. Prefer the recent recording with Picker narrating to Knussen's rendition with John Gielgud. I adore Oliver Knussen, but the Picker rendition is superior.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm
Sam Segal:

Good evening, Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
doctorjazz:

Hey, Dean, just saw it (the email). I'll keep you updated.
  11:17pm
Dean:

Good evening. Please do, docjazz.
Avatar 11:25pm
northguineahills:

I was just quoting Melville today, and no one got the reference....
  11:26pm
Dean:

What, ngh? You announced, "Heh, I'm going to Starbucks"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
doctorjazz:

I like Sclavis, have some albums, this is a hoot! (In a good way).
Avatar 11:29pm
northguineahills:

@Dean: It's the place where I find myself currently. I REALLY need to dumb down anything referential (to the point I've quit trying..... (starbucks would be a few steps up....)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
doctorjazz:

Hi Hi Silver!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
doctorjazz:

*Hi Ho Silver...
  11:32pm
Dean:

No you do not need to dumb down your allusions, references, commentary, what have you. One of my best friends for years has notoriously put off people by making fourth-order allusions and the like. Everybody is talking about X and he makes an oblique remark about G. Everybody stares stupidly. Nobody has the intellectual gumption to realize that starting from G you can get to X pretty quickly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Sam Segal:

For whatever reason, I'm on a Sclavis kick. (*spoiler alert*) More to come from him later this set.
  11:33pm
Dean:

I *think* I heard Sclavis live at Victo. Can't exactly remember...
Avatar 11:35pm
northguineahills:

@Dean: true, in my experience, you start w/ one's existing interests//knowledge base and lead from there. There's a caveat that the other party cares to learn....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm
doctorjazz:

Cool set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
doctorjazz:

(shoulda been asleep, sounds to good to leave...) (My Thursday morning schedule changes, start early now...)
  11:46pm
Dean:

I had the foresight to take tomorrow off. Have to travel on the weekend. Tomorrow will entail errands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm
Sam Segal:

Bummer that you're an early bird on Thursdays, Doc. Hope it is a good change, other than its possible impact on your Wednesday night radio habits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm
doctorjazz:

Gonna put the phone down, listen in a horizontal position. Night all, thanks Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
Sam Segal:

Sleep well, Doc!
Avatar 11:56pm
northguineahills:

superbly nice, thanks Sam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm
doctorjazz:

Beautiful, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm
coelacanth∅:

Thanks Sam!
'night y'all
  11:58pm
Dean:

Didn't we finally determine, based on an announcement of his appearance on a live recording, that Helias's last name is pronounced huh-LIE-us?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am
Sam Segal:

Oh shoot. Missed your note until after I signed off, but I will remember this pronunciation next time I play Helias, Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm
doctorjazz:

(That's the way I've heard it pronounced as well...)
