Good Hello, ellen! I'm glad this time isn't bad for you!

I hadn't known about the time change, but it seems like it's a good thing for your newly employed self

Finally, Dan invites Suzy to her place hahaha that's what I heard in my head canon hahaha

Yeah. It works a lot better with my new schedule. I have to work five days a week, outside of the house! It's a whole ordeal I haven't had to do for a long time.

I've always been curious about Mexico. Would love to visit someday.

Wild. I believe I will literally never work outside the home again. It's all freelance editing from here on out I think

It might amuse you that when I was on a boat in Acapulco waterskiing, I practiced my junior high Spanish with them and said I was from Chicago. They literally said, and I quote, "Ay Chicago Al Capone Bang Bang!"

Mariposa is also the name of the warbride ship my mother came to the States with just after World War II.

I work alone, but I have to go in to do the work; it's a bookstore, and I handle all the customer orders. So I go in the back, pull the books from my shelves (this is a warehouse collection. all rare books), and then I package them to be shipped. Then I leave the packages for the postal carrier, and then I leave. I don't really see many people, and I wear a mask while I'm indoors.

Yes, I hear it too, Scott 67. I think the person who archived these shows did it on tape, and often on tape that had something else on it, too. On a lot of shows I find for this show, I hear a "ghost" show behind the primary recording.

I can send people links if they are curious, but there are some very cool books in the rare book room, where I work. Lots of old pulp novels, detective fiction, and we specialize in old Sci-Fi. Perfect for Dimestore Radio Theater fans.

Tonight is the first of the last four episodes I'll be airing for "The Voyage of The Scarlet Queen." The next two episodes (this week and next week) will END the storyline, and then there are two further "pilot" episodes that I will air after that. It's been a fun show, but we will move on to some other sailing adventure.

There are also two local locations (in Salem, and in Corvallis), where you can go in and browse used books of all kinds. But those stores are mostly top 10 books, and stuff that moves more conventionally. The links are more specialized, collectible stuff.

Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 9:22pm

Good question, Ellen. I haven't read anything about that, but that doesn't mean there weren't any awards given for radio in those days. I'll have to do some research.

It's going to be interesting!!! Suspense!

Ellen Lovebug:

Honestly I would buy the soundtrack album from this show
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 9:24pm

Some of the cues would be easy to cut out and make a soundtrack album. Others have sound over them, and I'd have to do some work to isolate the music.

But not impossible.
  9:25pm
Ellen Lovebug:

Neat. I love when we get to the reveal of the meaning of the name of the episode
Avatar 9:27pm

I like how there is still a Lieutenant in this episode, like a typical Box 13 episode. Just not the one we're familiar with.
  9:29pm
Ellen Lovebug:

Cue the Wonderful World song. And next! My favorite part of every episode! The epilogue joke from Suzie!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 9:29pm
Austin Rich:

While Box 13 often suggests that it will "go anywhere, do anything," it is surprising how often Dan just goes down the street. So to have a story that actually leaves the country is pretty cool.

Though, from LA, Mexico isn't all that far away.

Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 9:47pm

For those who have been keeping track, early in the run of this show, Captain Carney mentioned that there were Eight crew members. We speculated that the number probably included both Phil and The First Mate, and later we met Neilson, who was usually the "other" crew member in most stories. Phil mentioned a cook, and now we've met Coler. So here's the ship's manifest, so far:

Phil Carney - Captain
Red Gallagher - First Mate
Neilson - Crewmember
Four - Cook.
Five - Coler
Six
Seven.
Eight.

Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 9:52pm

Guns and pistols seem to pop up in this show a lot, but often as a valuable object, or something to illustrate that the Queen has moved into dangerous territory. But I'm actually shocked at how rare there's actual gunplay, compared to some stories from this era.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm
Scott67:

The romanticized number off gun wielders defeated with a swift fist to the jaw.

Avatar 10:12pm
ImaginosBuzzardoDesdinova:

You ever read a really good story in an anthology and then later forget what the book was called so you can't find it again?
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
Austin Rich:

There's a few stories that are still floating around in my head, that I know I read somewhere, but I can't remember where. I think that's why I keep reading... maybe I'll stumble on them?
Avatar 10:15pm
ImaginosBuzzardoDesdinova:

I read one once where this scientist travels to the jungle to meet the indigenous people and discovers a rare flower that blooms once a year from a sacrificial corpse. She decides to try to grow it under lab conditions but they slip it into her food.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 10:16pm
Austin Rich:

Hmmmmmm. That doesn't quite ring a bell, but who knows? Maybe someone will read this, and recognize it?

Avatar 10:20pm

Here's an idea for a crossover that will never happen... Chandu Meets Blackstone.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 10:21pm

I did a John Carter re-read just before the pandemic. It's probably time to do a Lensmen re-read.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 10:23pm

That's a good idea for a crossover! Maybe you could get Zatara, too? (Or maybe Zatanna, who I usually liked better, anyway.)

Austin Rich:

Good night, Imaginos!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Austin Rich:

And then there were none...
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 10:31pm
Austin Rich:

The slow pace of Chandu The Magician, and the fact they usually recap nearly every thing that's happened previously eventually, you can almost drop in at any time on this show. But there are time when it's a little confusing to follow, without remembers several months of story.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
Austin Rich:

Dinner? Can you stand the suspense!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 10:34pm
Austin Rich:

The sound on this episode is really thin, and while I did my best to beef it up a little, you can tell the source recording isn't great.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
Austin Rich:

After several re-runs, it's been a while since Dimension X intentionally ran a NEW episode. This one is an original story by Ernest Kinoy, who usually wrote the adaptations of other people's stories. This time, this is an "original," though clearly lifted heavily from "The Martian Chronicles" work that Bradbury laid down.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Austin Rich:

Sadly, Dimension X would go off the air in 1951 after this episode, having completed it's first series, and wouldn't come back for almost exactly six months.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
Austin Rich:

Since the transcription discs were still around at most of the radio stations that originally ran Dimension X, some stations continued to air Dimension X in re-runs, each station sort of choosing which episodes to air. Some stations completely gave up on the show, and didn't pick it up again when the new episodes came back.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
Austin Rich:

My theory is that, unless there was a Sci-Fi fan on the staff at the station, Dimension X didn't really get a fair shake.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Austin Rich:

This story seems to be very heavily coded political commentary regarding Native Americans, something that Sci-Fi excels at. I do recall, listening to this as a child, that the story sort of hit me pretty heavy then. These days, it sounds sort of quaint.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 10:44pm

Everyone remembers the Martian Colonies we had in 1997, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
