Favoriting March 4, 2023: 280 Checkerboard Radio (4)

I first learned about The Checkerboard Time Radio Show and especially The Cackle Sisters through the 365 days project assuming these were all the recordings we have of the Dezurik Sisters. Recently I found a bunch of complete episodes of Checkerboard Time not only co-featuring other artists, but also some Cackle Sister songs that aren't in the list on WFMU's beware of the Blog linked above.
Being completely in the dark when (late 30s/mid 40s?) or what order they aired, I numbered them at my discretion.

Grandpa Jones was a huge star way before he joined the Hee Haw cast. Loved when he played a song on the show. Yes, I watched Hee Haw.

They used to have a running gag on Hee Haw where off-camera the crowd asked Grandpa what he was cooking. He'd run down a mouth-watering list of Southern dishes.

Hah, my son has gotten more into WFMU, right now the rock n soul station, so my yo de lay dee hoo search got delayed showing him about the playlists (he's using the Apple app to listen). Anyway, that song is a standard USA pop song representing Swiss Yodel music. Have not yet found focused info on it. Still looking.

Rich in Washington played a recording from Spike Jones Jr (a version of Raindrops keep falling on my head) that both was hilarious in the SJ tradition and also triggered me to read info on Jones, Jr., found that he was major TV producer and director.

Thanks and laters Jan. Onward.
