I have mentioned I have around 6 thousand records when we were talking about collecting since childhood and what influeneced us along the way (Jaws interview conversation). But i didn't mean to indicate they are all junkshop glam. A long time ago all families had record collections. even poor ones like mine. Other families used to come over and listen to comedy lps for example.
	4:16pm Debbie Davenport: Remember Don's live facebook dj sets. 2019 I think when the shutdown happened. That's when I heard a lot of this stuff for the first time. the bubblegum and hard rock type things I've heard since I was a toddler. some of it anyway.

The Stooges' "No Fun" uses it and so do many Jonathan Richman solo songs. I've always loved hand claps in songs.

	4:47pm Mr. Oxford: ↳ Becky Ebenkamp @4:43 Yeah I forgot many modern songs in hip hop, R&B and trap genres (trap was a short lived genre in mid-late 2010s) use handclaps but they are ALWAYS those keyboard/electronic generated ones. They just sounds intrusive in the music at this point if anything. An actual live human handclap has a gentleness to it that I can get behind.

	4:52pm Mr. Oxford: I think back in the 80s and 90s those electronic handclaps sounded fine. I remember Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" used those. Several songs in 90s and 2000s too. But later it got tiring.
	4:52pm Cheree July: Now that I think of it, 70's Disco used a lot of hand claps & maybe the hand clapping/drum machines.
	4:53pm Mr. Oxford: ↳ Debbie Davenport @4:48 I agree, sometimes in traditional Spanish or Portugese music some crazy rhythms are played impressively by human handclaps.
	4:56pm Cheree July: I noticed the ending chorus of the Groover by T. Rex with the hand claps sounded like a cheerleader chant. I was clapping & cheering to it myself.
	4:59pm Debbie Davenport: Hammond Organs had some handclap sampling in the late 60s, but it wasn't common in pop music. We have intenesely listened to Hertfordshire Rock over and over to see what we think the clapping source was. It isn't perfect enough to be a machine, and it's early for that even though it's the 70s. so maybe they recorded their own handclaps. It's been a long time since I talked about it in detail, but it stands out to me. Gordon was saying it had to be human too. sustained through the whole song somehow. Maybe I should hunt down samples of those early Hammond Organ claps.

They just sounds intrusive in the music at this point if anything. An actual live human handclap has a gentleness to it that I can get behind.

	4:56pm Cheree July: I noticed the ending chorus of the Groover by T. Rex with the hand claps sounded like a cheerleader chant. I was clapping & cheering to it myself.
	4:59pm Debbie Davenport: Hammond Organs had some handclap sampling in the late 60s, but it wasn't common in pop music. We have intenesely listened to Hertfordshire Rock over and over to see what we think the clapping source was. It isn't perfect enough to be a machine, and it's early for that even though it's the 70s. so maybe they recorded their own handclaps. It's been a long time since I talked about it in detail, but it stands out to me. Gordon was saying it had to be human too. sustained through the whole song somehow. Maybe I should hunt down samples of those early Hammond Organ claps.
