I like it! Hearing that interpretation, Lennon's songwriting style really comes out, more than the new released version. Would have fit perfectly on With The Beatles/Meet The Beatles, where their songwriting was hitting a peak that would come out in full on Hard Day's Night later in '64. I dig it, David did a great job there nailing the arrangement.

Yes, lyrically the theme of loss and missing loved ones is right there in the song, one of Lennon's most consistent themes in his lyrics. I think the arrangement David did makes it sound more "Lennon" if that makes sense, chords and all. The Rickenbacker rhythm guitar really, really works on this one.

That's true! And yet the majority of the studio photos from his 1980 sessions (and even the pre-75 ones show him playing guitar, it's odd how he demoed mostly on piano but stuck to guitar in the studios. I heard the guys from Cheap Trick, Rick especially, begged him to use the old Rickenbacker when they were recording with him but Lennon didn't.

It's odd. The Cars' first two were so important to us when we were high in HighSchool - in north NewEngland. & I'm not one to disown stuff I liked @ any phase really. But I just never went back to them ...but yeah, by any metric, they're great.

Beatle Suits (& poses) on the cover...
But the Groovies do span that connection from Psych SanFran to mid1970s Punk & NewWave...

Yes, just saw it on IMDB, had no idea they made it AGAIN (wonder if it just went straight to streaming). Also (to Listener Phat): saw Border Radio a few years ago (maybe on Turner or PBS?) & thought it was pretty aimless.

Vocally, it’s Frank Lee, Baby. Instruments, Los Shakers. A can’t miss combo.

Recasting it in a "I'll Be Back"/"Things We Said Today" mold shows a keen love and understanding of the Beatles. And the video is cheesy in the best way that word can be used!
