Lindbergh lived in NJ when his son was 'kidnapped' and they framed Hauptmann for the deed. Ironic, given Lucky's penchant for Germany. Convicted, tried, and executed by the hoi polloi

I recently watched Spirit of St. Louis with Jimmy Stewart. Jimmy was 47 while he was portraying a 25 yo Lindbergh. It felt icky to watch how they venerated such a racist Nazi sympathizer in 1957.

Like how Ben Braddock was kind of a revered anti-hero in the Graduate when I watched it in the '70s/'80s, but when my daughter watched it in film class a few years back, she found the character creepy and detestable.

I can watch classic films that have some cringey aspects, but Lindbergh was truly reprehensible.

Avatar 11:26am

In the film's defense, I don't think Mike Nichols intended the character to be all that likeable.
Avatar 11:28am

↳ Krys O. @11:25
whole heartedly agree, Krys. if you are offended, you need to read a book now & then. learn from the past or you're doomed to repeat it. papers think its funny some in the Media fear reprisals and interment camps and NO ONE seems to care??
