You may have know about this already: Richard Diamond, radio was the idea of Blake Edwards! he then became Richard Diamond, TV and then was turned into Peter Gunn, suave TV detective with a Mancini Theme Song.

I'll be doing this for Dimestore Radio Theater from now on, but for this show, I also used some digital tools to separate the "voices" from the "music" tracks of this old, mono recording. As a result, I was able to "mix" the show a little, and was able to move the voices a little more to the "front." (I also did some EQ.)

I didn't remove much background noise, as the original recording was so thin, that noise reduction sort of killed the sound, overall. But this is much more listenable than some recordings from 1937.

Nice to see you in the Digital Salon! This particular story has a lot of problems: Americans playing Japanese girls, the music cues that are sort of demeaning. And yet, a lot of soldiers came home with Japanese wives. (I actually had an old roommate who went into the service and came home with a Japanese wife.) So... it does happen... but it's weird.

Cary Grant is one of those Hollywood legends with a ton of great credits to his name. There's a Cary Grant movie for every occasion, and his bisexuality and use of LSD in therapy are just a few of the things that made him unusual in Hollywood.

Grace Moore was known for Opera and Musical Theater, and later, had a bit of a film career. Her life was unfortunately cut short, as she died in 1947, at age 49. But she got to do some interesting things during her life.

The movie that brought Cary Grant and Grace Moore together is, "When You're In Love." I've never seen it, but it was their pairing there that was the inspiration to have them reunite on Lux Radio Theater.

This is the main reason Grace Moore was put in this production: she could pull off the opera flawlessly, and beautifully, even if she doesn't have her Japanese accent when she sings.

Grace Moore is a Southern girl, from Tennessee. I think all the Opera has caused her to drop the southern accent, but in her time, she was known as the "Tennessee Nightingale." She wrote a biography in 1944, a few years before her plane crash that killed her. She was considered one of the people who was re-popularizing Opera for Americans. I wonder what could have happened if she lived?
