I'll post it again for those who may be confused by the comments on this (apologies if you've already read it);
Wanna hear a sad tale? (posted this on ...Devaints last night). Yesterday my family was to fly to Sweden, Copenhagen, and Poland. I had family in those places years back, wanted to check them out.
Passport was good until September, knew I'd need to renew it, but figured it could be after the trip (If something expires on a certain date, it is good before that date, no?)
Well, no, it turns out. European rules are the passport needs at least 3 months before expiration. So, my family left without me. I'm hoping an early Monday morning visit to the NYC passport office (with tears in my eyes), will get me a passport quickly so I can join them with a Monday night flight. (Family is there already, walking around Gothenburg).
(I do get to listen to more Drummer Stream, bright side...)
(Family is now in Gothenburg, Sweden...just not me)

reminds me of my ex and i were flying out of Paris to Mexico City w/ a layover in Atlanta, and her visa expired while we were in europe (she was going to get a new one while we were in Mexico).(after galivanting around Germany) around Well, we thought since we were never leaving the international flight area of hartsfield, it would be no big deal (i've gone through foreign airports for a layover before when i had no visa). short story long, she spent 5 days in de Gaulle waiting to get a direct flight to Mexico City. I had a red eye flight to Mexico and my spanish back then was a bit limited. Got to airport, barely got the last bus to Pachuca, and called her parents (who spoke no english), to pick me up. (it was a curious 5 days until she showed up)

Is the BDRRU monitoring the hot air situation over Paris these days? There are rumors a huge performer might be there when the balloon comes to the ground. Who else is more qualified to bring down that hot air balloon? Does the BDRRU have training for a balloon falling on him instead of him falling from or with a balloon?

Hey Fred. Whilst it's a very topical question, I hope you appreciate that for security reasons I cannot reveal the tactical plans of the BDRRU at this sensitive time. Imagine the havoc that might be unleashed if our preparations got out. I'm sure there's no danger of that after my third Glen Passaic...

Interesting read. But makes me feel old when a gastronomical tale records into a murky unknown past in the late 1980s, early 1990s.

How should we explain it-it's a mystical, magical, super-potent elixer ONLY available at The Stork Club, guaranteed to melt both your brain and the inside of your body with just 1 sip.
(I could use a few right now...)

I had to break it to you, WR, but...uhm...

I wasn't in San Diego at that time, and I recall first hearing about a California burrito only in recent years. As opposed, I mean, to a burrito with fried potatoes, which is not the same.

It's the standard drink of the Stork Club. Beyond that cannot answer your question, never remember anything beyond asking for a second shot.

We have a scribe who notes the many varieties of cocktails made with Glen Passaic but they don't appear to be available at the moment.

After skimming well over 350 articles--many are duplicates due to syndication--I have found the first reference in the San Diego Union-Tribune, Oct. 27, 2005:

"And try one of those ubiquitous burritos, specially the California one: carne asada, sour cream, salsa and french fries. The french fries may sound out of place, but they taste like they belong."

If by that time these were ubiquitous, then I suppose the '90s would be a fair decade for the origin. But it's kind of odd that nobody mentioned them until ubiquity.
