Listener comments!

  9:02am Doug:

G'morning everyone. Who has the snacks?
  9:03am Pamela:

No snacks, but have hot tea.
Confused - isn't this called the friendly noose, by big blood?
  9:04am Ken:

I've got the opposite of The Snacks. My BPPV is acting up today and I feel like crap today. But happy to be here as usual!
  9:05am Ken:

Maybe Fire on Fire / Bog Blood are playing some kind of trick...
  9:06am Doug:

Hey, can you guys help me name my new band? It's like Can crossed with DFA and Radio 4.
  9:08am Negator:

Oh yeah, Ken, my goiter is bubbling up on my neck and oozing this repulsing odor. Glad you're here too!
  9:09am Doug:

The most common cause of BPPV in people under age 50 is head injury.
  9:10am Parq:

Lower back pain here. It's fun being middle aged!
9:10am Chance From That Third World Country, Maine:

No complaints. :) Ah, youth.
  9:11am Ken:

Doug, call your band "Bubbling Goiter."
  9:12am Negator:

Scabid testicles, here! Odds Bodkins!
  9:12am andy zack:

maybe a few days here in Rincon will equalize you. disfrute feel better
  9:17am Parq:

If scotcheroos is the problem, is Ergo's "Many Feet" on the playlist?
  9:18am George Bush:

Yup yup yup! Heh heh heh.
  9:18am negator:

FATTY!
  9:25am George Bush again:

See . . . the Judaistic people are very important to the American histrionic experience . . .
  9:25am Negator:

Mia was bonin' Frank when she made this.... You think she boned Krzysztof?
  9:25am Negator:

It is fuckin hard to spell Krzysztof
  9:29am Ken:

Excellent question about Mia Farrow, Negator. Alas, with one boning and one scrotum reference in the first 30 minutes, you've now exceeded this playlists creepy quotient, so now must cease that line of commenting.
  9:30am Doug:

New listener alert. Hi Damon.
  9:31am Negator:

No sweat, Ken. just trying to make you feel better. I just never put Mia and Frank together that way, that's all.
  9:35am Doug:

This seems to consist of someone playing guitar over a MRK1 track.
  9:36am Wes:

Good morning! (can't believe I missed Wing...) Also, fwiw, "fire on fire" is "big blood" with a handful of extra pickers. Same songs, more banjos, guitars, etc.
  9:36am Ken:

Thanks Negator. Interesting stuff in thge Robert Evans movie "The Kid Stays in the Picture" about Mia and Frank and Rosemary's Baby. Frank left Mia because she stayed on the shoot too long but she wouldn't leave because Evans dangled "Oscar" in front of her.
  9:38am Jeffersonic:

Hi Ken,
In my formerly subconscious desire to someday resemble "Jabba
the Hut", I've spent too much time at the computer and now I've recently developed some deep chronic shoulder pain. Is there a limit to how many old cranks you allow on your playlist, bitching about their pain?
  9:39am Nihilistic Spaz:

"By the end of 2010s, we'd like to see these robots working at every street corner of the city," said Tomohiko Kawanabe of Honda's Fundamental Technology Research Center.

http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2007/12/12/tech-asimo-team.html

Once they're both driving the cars and wielding the squeegees, what'll be the point of humans? Come to think of it, what's been they're point to begin with?
  9:39am Negator:

Oh yeah, saw that great movie. Check this out: "WWFD" What Would Fatty Do?
  9:39am Parq:

Hmm. Since the creepy quotient has already been exceeded, let's just take it as read that someone riffed on "dangling Oscar" in front of an actress to keep her on the set.
  9:41am Lukas:

Can I say that I am middle-aged and have no chronic pain at all? Except all the injuries from playing soccer yesterday. And wasn't there a story with Kenny G dangling his Oscar in front of some other DJ at a WFMU marathon?
  9:41am Wes:

Ah, dangling the oscar, that's what the kids are calling it these days...
  9:43am mouse:

is that the washington square park astologer?
  9:44am Jeffersonic:

Doug: I don't think anyone's using "Ornamental Coleman Lantern" or "Jesus Crass Superass". (perhaps for good reason)
  9:44am Ken:

Speaking of Oscars, Cate Blanchett in "Im Not There" gets my vote foir best actor or actress, depending on how those rules work. Saw the movie last weekend, loved it, Except I could have done with less Heath Ledger and Richard Gere.
  9:46am Lukas:

I think "No Country For Old Men" deserves some Oscars. Probably the best film I've seen this year.
  9:46am Ken:

mouse - Good catch! That was indeed Rodney Yates, the Washington Square Park astrologer. You win the ID-the-Sample contest!
  9:47am Ken:

Yep, agreed Lukas. That was amazing. Javier Bandar or whatever his name is was amazing. Josh Brolin was also great.
  9:47am mouse:

i'm a winner!
  9:51am Jeffersonic:

The audience collectively gasped when the credits appeared at the showing of "No Country..." that I attended.
  9:52am JJZ:

Sounds like some good credits.
  9:54am chris l:

did john doe write that song? gotta love a girl named daisy!
  10:07am 386DX:

Asimos rock!
  10:08am nEGATOR:

"WWJD"
wHAT wOULD jUBBO dO?
  10:09am Ken:

So what were your favorite records of 2007? If you can all list enough, I'll make my WFMU Blog 2007 Top Ten list from all of you. As long as it was a new record from 2007 that I played on my show.
  10:10am Melissa:

The new Wire record of course!
  10:10am spanky:

just in Italian alps -- wandered through a small town at night -- some little kids wielding sticks and growling scared the crap out of me: Krampus!
  10:12am Negator:

Do you want us to list them here or email?
  10:13am Vivian:

Favorite releases in 2007:
Von Sudenfeld, Laura Veir's Saltbreakers.
  10:14am Doug:

I have been pretty into the Citay record but I'm not certain if you've played it or not. I also really liked Standard Gargoyle Decisions.
  10:15am Ken:

List them all here! Contrary to popular belief, it is PERFECTLY OK to discuss the music I play on my show here on the playlist.
  10:16am Rob M:

I second that on Von Sudenfel!
  10:17am Doug:

I didn't purchase the Von Sudenfed but I loved what I've heard, good call.
  10:19am Damon:

My fave album this year was Adam Franklin (former swervedriver) Bolts of Melody
  10:20am Wes:

Col JD and th' Legendary Shack Shakers "Swampblood" on Yep Roc records out of Chapel Hill, NC. You probably haven't played it. Also enjoyed Vic Chesnutt's release on Constellation, but I'm a big Const/Records fan anyway...
  10:20am Ken:

One of my faves of the year was Mexican Institute of Sound.
  10:21am C:

His Name is Alive - Xmmer has been my favorite one so far. It was great live too.
  10:24am negator:

Von Sudenfed
SatanicPornoCultshop
Cassetteboy vs DJ Rubbish
Maskull
Clinic
Mustafio
People Like Us & Ergo Phizmiz
RIAA
RX
Dogliotti
Many Many More!
  10:24am pat:

Best show all year had to be Old Time Rilijun here in DC. Those guys are out of control.
  10:24am lonnie:

enjoyed panda bear (person pitch), robert wyatt (comicopera), battles (mirrored), and oddly enough the thermals record
  10:25am lalepuna:

its better to stick foie gras in your ears
  10:29am Ken:

Yes, Old Tim Relijun at the WFMU Free Music Series in October was also fantastic.
  10:30am sasa:

Pinata... good choise Ken.
  10:33am Charles:

Great show as usual, Ken!
  10:33am nEGATOR:

Does anyone know the Wire record "The Ideal Copy"? I love this LP but most do not....
  10:35am bb:

sure, the ideal copy is great. i wonder wheremy copy is...

its surely an overlooked bit of their output, in most cases
  10:36am Negator:

Never heard a song on WFMU from that album.. Hmmmmm
  10:37am Richard:

Ideal copy is great but I don't think anything come close to the "holy trilogy"!
Chairs missing and 154 are both in my top ten all time. This current wire sounds awesome btw...
Ken, can I send you a photo of my WFMU bumper sticker encrusted garbage can for all to see?
  10:37am bettermoodnow:

awesome set
  10:37am Ken:

I'll have to check out that Wire album again. It was lost in their mid-career morass, that long period between Pink Flag and Send.
  10:39am Vivian:

Pink Flag remains my favorite, I was wondering why it wasn't brought up earlier. Also, can I put my vote in for LCD Soundsystem for Best Platters of 2007?
  10:42am sabrina:

happy holidays ken,,have you got any special plans this season? also is there anything that you want the most? SEASONS GREETINGS ken,
  10:43am Ken:

Hi Cheri. Enjoying the new identity.
  10:44am vivian:

No relation...
  10:44am tthht:

I can still enjoy those lengthy tracks on Kid Koala's 'your mom's favourite dj' as much as I did when I first heard them, so it gets my vote.
  10:45am Marcy:

A few fave new things you played: Big Blood, Robert Wyatt, Psychedelic Horseshit, Animal Collective, Magik Markers.

I heard Wire's 12XU on a punk comp when I was 12, thought it was the best thing ever, then went out and bought Manscape on tape. My dissapointment was such that I didn't bother to check out Wire again until after high school.
  10:47am Parq:

I'll put in dittos for Psych Horse Pucky and Anim. Colv.
  10:48am pat:

been enjoying Big Blood too but they kind of creep me out...
10:49am Chance From That Third World Country, Maine:

I second Battles "Mirrored". That album is boffo start to finish.

Others, the new LCD, the new Bjork, the new Chemical Brothers, and the new Beirut.
  10:52am bb:

i need to pick up the big blood..

$1 or less copies of manscape and its begining to and back again have been the end of many young forays into the wire catalog (esp back when the big three were not widely distributed on cd)...

for the record, its a robert wyatt year for me. i can barely recall much else that was released
  10:53am Doug:

These jokes are making me nauseous.
  10:54am Borat Sagdiyev:

That joke is funny not.
  11:01am Negator:

Oh Yeah Robert Wyatt!
  11:01am CHARLIE:

more rudi
  11:05am dave from baltimore:

my favorite 2007 release: Stars of the lid - And their refinement of the decline. doubt it has been played on ken's show, way too sedate for Wednesday morning listening.
  11:07am sean:

Love the Oranj Symphonette! Thanks!
11:07am Chance From That Third World Country, Maine:

"Spiderman of the Rings", Dan Deacon
  11:11am Sean Daily:

Nowhere near first comment! Woo hoo!
  11:14am hell:

  11:20am north guinea hills:

damn, i missed bill jam, dj transpacificus, and clayton counts b/c my computer froze
11:21am Chance From That Third World Country, Maine:

Revoution #9-11, it's ad nauseous!
11:26am Chance From That Third World Country, Maine:

Or, open your mind, because I believe it has the subliminal "Vote for Ron Paul" message at the end.
  11:28am Sean Daily:

Nice call, Chance.
  11:29am Pon Raul:

That wasn't a subliminal campaign ad, that was a campaign ad!
  11:29am Wes:

This is one of my favorites, because it highlights the absurdity of the situation by being absurd, don't fear the rudy!!!
11:30am Chance From That Third World Country, Maine:

http://ronpaulblimp.com/
  11:30am Richard:

I know it's kinda the point but this is way too repetitive!
Those math questions are way too hard!
  11:32am sean:

When was that dokaka stuff released?
  11:32am Wes:

I'm voting for you, Pon. I hope you are able to turn around the Wraq Iar situation. Pegalize Lot.
  11:32am Parq:

I dug the last two musically, but I'm voting for the Lambert because it does the best job of showing how full of pucky that hypocritical bully is.
  11:34am Richard:

Master G
  11:34am pat:

Gary Lamber, Revolution #9-11 ALL THE WAY!!
  11:35am Vivian:

They're all great however, I throw my vote to Don't Fear The Rudy.

  11:36am Listener Mike D.:

For my money, it has to be Gary Lambert. I giggled like a schoolgirl. As I did when you played the MUPPET SCATTING BED MUSIC AGAIN KEN!
  11:39am tpm:

Votes:

Gary Lambert, Revolution #9-11, for best 9/11 Rudi Remix;

and

Ross Johnson, Weak and Afraid (Theme From A Summer Place), for a favorite 2007 release. (And it goes well with the 9/11 Rudi Remixes!)
  11:39am Bennett:

From an avid listener since 1981 [does this lend greater weight to my vote? ;-) ]:

Gary Lambert's Revolution #9-11
  11:39am WmC:

  11:48am sean:

  11:49am chris l:

Revolution # 9 - 11
  11:50am Lewis:

My nod goes to Miguelito Contraband
  11:50am Andrew:

  11:51am dave from baltimore:

Don't Fear The Rudy!
  11:51am misterdaddy:

I Vote for Don't Fear the Rudy
  11:51am not pat:

Oh, I really liked Gary Lambert thank you. ( 1 vote/ listener, right?)
  11:51am matt:

I'll go for 'don't fear the rudy', because i think the revolution one is clever but I have no desire to listen to it again!
  11:51am spats:

gary lambert! as merriam-webster would say, "w00t".
  11:55am Listener Fantod:

Woot! My musical tastes agree with Ken. I knew there was some reason I listen to this crud.

TINKERBELL FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!
12:00pm Chance From That Third World Country, Maine:

Krampus Christmas Special! I love you Ken.
  2:26pm Tiel:

Great program. It would be nice if you could list what time the selections are playing rather than how far into the show they are. I'm math challenged. :(
  4:54pm Trent:

Oh man, it's good to hear Haunted Pussy again. Never thought I'd hear them after they put out that CDR a few years ago ESPECIALLY not in this capacity!!! Haunt me more!!
  9:56pm Kenzo:

Tiel - This may or may not satisfy your desire, but have you checked out the Time Search page?

Plug in a time, and it'll tell you what song was playing (if it knows).

http://wfmu.org/timesearch.php
  10:31am Ken:

I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to do the Rudy Remix Recount yet, I will do it by Friday at 5pm. Man, have I been swamped lately....
  9:29pm woid:

WAAAAAY past airtime, but here's my vote for REVOLUTION #9/11 -- far and away the best.
  9:36pm Ruth Genne:

Gary Lambert's is the best.

I believe Mr. Lambert to be a god among men.
  10:53am Ken Marks:

My favorite is Gary Lambert's Revolution 9/11
  12:59pm lesley:

Gary Lambert's Revolution 9/11 -- who can top the Beatles?
  5:21pm Martha Cronin:

Here's a vote for Revolution #9/11. Such cleverness!
  5:54pm john:

Revolution #9/11 had my head spinning!
  12:37pm Ken:

OK, the results are in and in the listener's choice contest, it's indeed a tie between Migulito Contraband and Gary Lambert. Congratulations to both, and thanks to everybody who submitted such great material to the contest.
